Mid week pubs/clubs

by tommysnap

Will be staying in Scarborough on a regular basis for a couple of days mid week at a time. Trying to find the pubs/clubs that a 30 something would be OK in, somewhere a bit lively but not full of teens and 20 year old chavs. especially looking for places that have ladies nights mid week.

I am not really a pub person but I hate to see a question go unanswered so I have asked my Scarborough friends and they say any pub in St Nicholas Street or Falsrave Road should appeal. Stay away from the pubs around the harbour with their bouncers on the door and constant loud music blarring out.

This is the best pub review site that I have found and it should give you an idea of pubs and bars that will suit you.

Travel Tips for Scarborough

Scarborough Rock - A British Tradition

by toontraveller

All you British, you know exactly what I mean but to the overseas guys who haven't quite figured out our traditions yet here's one of them.

It's like this...
You go on holiday to a seaside resort. Maybe Blackpool, maybe Weston-Super-Mare, maybe Brighton or maybe Scarborough to mention but a few. You'll probably walk along the beach, you'll probably have an ice cream (see my ice cream tip). You may walk along the pier if they still have one and you may even let the kids ride a Donkey if they're brave enough but one things for certain, you'll take all of your friends a stick of rock back.

Available in all colours, flavours and sizes rock has 3 unique qualities.

1) It is manufactured mostly from sugar and has its name running through its entire middle - i.e. Scarborough Rock.
2) It's moorish beyond belief. Once you start you hate to stop but its almost inevitable that you'll save a little bit for another day by wrapping up the soggy end in its plastic wrapper.
3) Rock removes fillings better than a harley street dentist - GUARANTEED! You don't believe me, then try it.

As a little thank you for reading this tip I've got 4 sticks of Scarborough Rock to send to the first 4 people from overseas who'd like to try some. All you need to do is get in touch (and insure you're teeth).

More Fish & Chips

by steventilly about Rennard's

An Scarborough "establishment", up in the main town and with a "fish & chip restaurant" alongside its take away.
That "Itis Itis" next door looked interesting too, but more as a nightlife place than a cafe. Chips, Chips & Peas, Chip buttie...

Make Love & Listen To The Music

by steventilly

The "Lynx Effect" roadshow was in town and on the harbour pier. We waited around for a while but they were taking too long to get set up, so I dunno what exactly they were up to. Anyway, I obviously don't need "The Lynx Effect"... ;-)
