My 3rd and final tip to get you to/from Scarborough via a mode of Public Transport known as a "Bus" is the availability of the Arriva #93 & X93 Bus Service from Middlesbrough to Scarborough via my Home town of Whitby.This goes over the following route (from Middlesbrough):
Middlesbrough Bus Station > Ormesby Crossroads > Guisborough (Market Place) > Birk Brow (top of VERY steep, winding hill along the A171... great view though) > Scaling Dam (large Trout reservoir owned by Northumbrian water on the Teeside/North Yorkshire border) > Aislaby (War Memorial) > Whitby Bus Station > Hawsker Village > Robin Hood's Bay (#93 only) > Fylingthorpe > Flask Inn > Cloughton > Scarborough Hospital > Scarborough Railway Station.
