Thin walls and grudging service

As we were going to arrive in town in the late morning, before the normal check-in time, we phoned to ask if we could leave the bags in reception.

"No, we might want to go out for a walk," was the reply.

Bad start. The car park is so small that you have to leave your keys at reception, so that the staff can shuffle the vehicles around when necessary.

The rooms are built around an old windmill, which is visible on the appraoch to town, and the reception and dining areas are in the mill building itself.

The accommodation was OK, in a 1950s guest house sort of way, but the big problem was the soundproofing. The units seem to be separated by home-erected plaster board, so every (and I do mean every) sound from next-door's bathroom can be heard.

We were glad to escape.
