    Town centre budget hotel

    by

I have never stayed here but include as part of these comprehensive Scarborough pages. A wonderful town centre location - only a 2 minute walk from the shopping centre and town centre and the cliff top is a minute away from where you can either walk down to the promenade on the south bay or take the cliff lift.
I have stayed in many Travelodeges across the UK and with the exception of one in the London area they have been very good value for money.

Directions: From the station walk down the shopping precinct in front of you and then turn right when you get to Huntriss Row. At the end of this short street cross the road and the hotel is on the short street across the road on the right.

    Clean but very basic

    by

Travelodge Hotels are very basic hotels and you can get the rooms at a bargain price.

I stayed here for one night in April 2010. Nothing exciting at all about the place. It was just a room with a bed.

No on site car park, so we had to use the nearby multi storey with an extra charge.

Unique Quality: Good central location. 5 mins walk to the beach and the arcades.

    Do not book this hotel!

    by

If you are thinking of booking a room at the Hotel St Nicholas... don't! According to the 'Scarborough Evening News' (our local newspaper), it is currently in the process of being bought out by the Travelodge group. Some events (weddings etc) which were booked to take place at the hotel have been cancelled, so I wouldn't recommend getting a room here just yet as you could be left with nowhere to stay - instead wait until it's a Travelodge. It's actually a nice hotel (big place, nice rooms, sea views, and right in the town centre) but will be tons cheaper when they have taken over and will no doubt get refurbished too.

If you have already booked, don't panic! Just give them a call and they will be able to advise you. The changeover won't be happening until mid- to late July. In the meantime, if you need to find this hotel, ask a local for "the St Nick" and they will point you in the right direction! It's worth finding just for the public bar, "Nix Bar", which is great for cocktails and will be the last part of the hotel to shut (if it does at all).

Unique Quality: Nice views of the sea from some rooms. Very central without being noisy.

Directions: Head for the trams to the beach and it's at the end of the car park, right next to the Spa footbridge - you can't miss it.

    Sea views but central

    by

A big place, popular for conferences and other social/business events as well as with tourists the St. Nic is as central as it gets, it has bars a gym and even a pool, some of its glory is faded but it’s not a bad place to stay. When I first stayed at the St. Nicholas I didn’t like it, I thought the staff were rude but they, like the hotel have grown on me and during my most recent visit the young team who make up the front of house staff were friendly and helpful, so maybe it was me.

Unique Quality: I stay here regularly as I sometimes work in Scarborough, last time I was here I was given a really nice suite (see pic) and my only complaint is that there was a rather scratchy blanket on the bed of the sort we had in the 1970s, some of my colleagues weren’t quite so lucky with their accommodation and it may be an idea to ask to see the room before you check in. It’s difficult to give exact prices as there are lots of deals and things going on and as with most places in Scarborough it rather depends on the season.

Parking is a problem, if you can find a place outside you need to buy a permit from reception.

Railway Station to Hotel

by lydia66

Could you advise on how to get from the railway station to the Travelodge in Scarborough please. Is it far to walk. Also is the Wetherspoon Pub near this area?

Google is your friend.

According to the map on the Travelodge website it's about 600 yards from the station:

http://www.travelodge.co.uk/search_and_book/hotel_overview.php?hotel_id=396

Ditto for the pub if it's this one, which is less than 200 yards from the station.

Put 'travelodge scarborough' into google maps (click the blue ink to the top left of the google page) and you'll see exactly where it is in relation to the station....around 500m.

Then put 'wetherspoons scarborough' into the same page and you'll see where that is in relation to your hotel and/or the station (about the same distance).

I have just put a tip on my Scarborough pages for the Travelodge - if you look at it you will see what a great location it is in. I walked from the station to the street the hotel is in about three weeks ago - about an 8 minute walk.
