Oops nearly off the edge...

Scarborough is it'self almost off the beaten path. You would only go there, to go there as to the east there is just the North Sea!
The nearest motorway is 50 miles west and the nearest city is York about 40miles.
Having said that it is well worth a visit; in the season it is very busy but off season quiet and that is the (in my opinion) best time to enjoy Scarborough.
The photo shows Scarborough in February - enjoy!
The Harbour
by Britannia2
The harbour is full of activity even though the fishing fleet is not so large these days. There are pleasure boats and often a coastal cargo boat will be seen in the harbour.
Through 2007 a small marina style yacht area has been built in the harbour.
The Castle By The Sea

Whoever the "famous artist" John Atkinson Grimshaw was, he lived here between 1876 and 1879. I know this because of the blue heritage plaque on the wall, but I have absolutely no idea who he was!
The place is now a hotel, and it looks nice enough, and is in a great location.
