Car Parking For Royal Hotel

by jmjones

Hi all hope you can help?
I visit the Royal Hotel every year around the end of March for 2 nights, however, it costs around £15 to park in the car park which is about 5 minutes walk away. Does anyone know of a cheaper/free place to park 26/27th March?
Thanks in advance.

I know there is lots of free on-street parking in Scarborough in the residential streets. I'll ask my mum for specific areas as she goes quite regularly.

I haven't parked in Scarborough for decades, I'm afraid.

There is a rather good clickable map of parking here:

http://www.visitscarborough.com/parking.html

so you can check car parks near the hotel.

Is the £15 charge is for the 'scratchcard' mentioned in the text on that page? You may have difficulty parking in residential streets within easy walking distance without one; it seems many are in a 'disc zone' (also mentioned in text).

You can buy 2-7 day parking tickets when you arrive from the Tourist Info people, or phone them on 01723 232323 to get one in advance. Might be worth a phone call to see if an advance ticket costs less than £15.

Hi, this is what my mum says;
I think the Royal is not far from the Grand, where we stayed. We couldn't find any free parking, it was quite difficult to find any place to park near the hotel. We eventually went to the multistory car park near the main shopping street, it wasn't too expensive, they had a good 24 hour rate and we got a code from the hotel for a discount.
Sorry about that, when we used to go we parked further away in the newer part of the town.

Travel Tips for Scarborough

Stephen Joseph Theatre

by steventilly

This used to be the Odeon Cinema when I was a kid - I saw "Live & Let Die" here! Now it's The Stephen Joseph Theatre. This theatre is Alan Aykbourn's "home" theatre and all of his plays get their first showing here. We rather like a lot of his plays, and it would be nice to see one here. Something for next time, prhaps.

The second best fish and chips in town

by Britannia2 about Wackers

The second best place for fish and chips in Scarborough is Wackers. Mother Hubbards wins by a whisker but do not pass Wackers by - in fact it is better than its competitor in the way it is air conditioned and is on the ground floor - there are no stairs to climb.
The fish and chips are very good but perhaps not as good as my first choice - Wackers is good for things that Mother Hubbards is not - mainly access for everyone. What else - fish and chips! There is also a coffee shop within selling scones, cakes and biscuits.

The Diving Bell statue

by Britannia2

The Diving Bell statue was brought to Vincents Pier and stands in front of the lighthouse looking out to sea on completion in 2007. This is a beautiful structure of a female diver in bronze and commemorates Scarborough becoming England's first sea bathing resort in the 17th Century.
