WHITBY'S FINEST

Finding a decent place to stay, Is probable the hardest thing to get right and the easiest thing to spoil your holiday. However look no further for a FANTASTIC place to stay, The Leeway is situated perfectly, just a hop skip and a jump away from all that Whitby has to offer, they have a webite which I will link to. From the moment we walked in and met Garry who is the owner, we were looked after perfectly, Garry is a very affable chap and goes out of his way to make your stay a great one, the room we stayed in was a double No3, it is clean, modern very comfortable and just as it looks on the website, the bed was very comfortable, the on suite shower is spotless and the room is equipped with all the requirements plus a few more, TV with DVD player, there are dvd's to borrow in the hall.
We didnt see Karen as she was probable grafting behind the scenes, however we tasted her delicious Full English Breakfast and It cant be faulted, the dining room is spotless and again modern with a wall mounted flat screen, there is juice, fruit, cereals at your fingertip.
We are going to return later in the year to the Leeway and I suggest you do the same.

Many thanks to Garry & Karen

Unique Quality: Perfectly placed, home from home and 2 wonderful hosts. Cannot be faulted and I'm pretty hard to please.

More about The Leeway

simply the best!!

by TripAdvisor Member yamaha-bloke

although we arrived early (midday, a big "no no" at most other guest houses) we were welcomed by karen & garry and provided with hot drinks and home made cake before being shown to our rooms. the rooms were spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated and furnished to a very high standard with lots of drawer and hanging space. there was a comprehensive hospitallity tray with nice touches such as bottled water, wine glasses and bottle opener. understandably, take away food is not allowed into the bedrooms but may be brought into the dining room by prior arrangement. garry and karen have compiled a very handy register of places to eat in whitby, encouraging guests to rate the local eating houses.
breakfast was absolutely first class, hearty and cooked to perfection, with garry on hand offering refills to the coffee pot and toast rack. as the title suggests, this is simply the best guest house we have ever stayed in, such a pity we were only there for 2 nights but hopefully we will be returning in the not too distant future.

Excellent

Excellent accomodation our room was spotless and very tastefully decorated with lots of complimentary toiletries, a full hospitalitry tray. Garry and karen very friendly and helpful. A lovely cooked breakfast served very well by Garry. The best B & B weve stayed in. Would definetley come back again.

Our time at The Leeway

by TripAdvisor Member DBRainbow

Karen & Garry were wonderful hosts who couldn't do enough for you. The Leeway is cleanliness personified. We were thrilled with our room and the peace and quiet for being near the centre of town. As a disabled person I found it easy to negotiate the stairs. The room itself was large and the complimentary tray was excellent with fresh flowers and even shampoo, conditioner & shower gel supplied.
The breakfasts were out of this world and you needed to walk it off for the size of portions.
Our only complaint was that our stay was so short (3 nights).
We highly recommend Karen & Garry's establishment and if we are fortunate enough to be back that way we would certainly be back! Well done Karen & Garry and THANK YOU BOTH for the wonderful restful stay we had!

Another October in Whitby

I can not fault this guest house.

The accomodation is first class; clean, well maintained and comfortable.

The service and attention to detail is first class and is on a personal level; many of the chain hotels could take a leaf out of Karen & Garry's book. You are left feeling nothing would be too much trouble for them to make your stay comfortable.

Even the tea & cake on arrival is a nice touch. After a long drive, it is great to catch your breath and have a sit down while Garry welcomes you to The Leeway.

In a town with a large level of guest house and self catering provision, I would heartily recommend that The Leeway be the first call anyone makes when they wish to holiday in Whitby.

The perfect B&B!

by TripAdvisor Member feepington

I have stayed at The Leeway several times and it just gets better. Karen and Garry are perfect and friendly hosts and have created a wonderfully contemporary, chintz free B&B with many personal touches - such as bathrobes and magazines in the deluxe rooms. The location is great - a 2min walk will take you either to the town centre or to the beach! If you don't want to eat out every night, then you are able to bring a takeaway into the dining room - in fact when we mentioned we'd like to do this, a table with everything we needed was laid out waiting for us on our return. I cannot recommend The Leeway enough!

goth-tastic!

by TripAdvisor Member stiobhart

the missus and me stay at the leeway every time we go to whitby for the twice yearly 'whitby goth weekend' and have been doing so for about the past three or four years. as we're leaving at the end of one visit, we ask garry and karen to book us in again for next time. the leeway is so good we don't even think of looking elsewhere. the fact that most of the faces of the other guests we meet in the leeway during those goth weekends are also familiar from previous visits implies that we're not the only ones to think that way.

garry and karen are the perfect hosts. they seem to know every guest by name and are always ready for a friendly chat when you meet them on the stairs or going in or out. on the other hand, unlike a lot of B&Bs, they'll leave you undisturbed all day if that's what you want; very handy for those 'mornings after' a night out at the little angel pub [my other 'home from home' in whitby] - which is nary a five minute walk from the leeway.

during our last visit we discovered that the constant influx of goths into the leeway during 'whitby goth weekend' may be rubbing off on garry and karen; we returned from the pub on hallowe'en night to find the leeway's front steps decorated with pumpkin lanterns, the windows with hallowe'en decorations and our landlord and landlady themselves promenading the streets of whitby clad in skin-tight PVC goth outfits.

who knows where this might end!

By far the nicest

by TripAdvisor Member picknmix

We have been having a winter weekend in Whitby for 10 years and have stayed there many other times. The Leaway is by far the nicest guest house we have stayed in and we will definately go back. It sets the standard that the others should aspire to. An incredibly friendly place, decorated to the highest standard (We had the Superior King room) with all the facilities of a top city hotel. Fantastic food, (The grill is a breakfast and a half!) near, central location and all in all a simply excellent place. It is THE place to stay and a real home from home. Many thanks Gary, Carl and Linsey.(Sheffield)

Excellent B and B

by TripAdvisor Member matisse016

The Leeway is a lovely B and B, Karen and Garry who run The Leeway are really nice people and the food is excellent , the room was like home from home, nice and warn and very clean. i will highley reccomend this B and B to my friends and family.

Made a special weekend complete.

by TripAdvisor Member elder_uk

I booked the Leeway after a cancellation for their single room came available.

The room was comfortable sized, well equiped and always kept clean. No ensuite for the single room, but it does have it's own private bathroom down the corridor with key and a bathrobe provided.

Garry and Karen run a wonderful place.

My recommendation is the breakfast. I didn't try the veggie option, but the full english was great with a choice of fried, scrambled or those watching their weight poached eggs. There was also a selection of juices, fruit and cereals available for those who wanted something lighter.

I was there for the twice annual goth weekend in October, and the house was decked out for Halloween and sweets and treats dished out for the local trick or treaters. Garry and Karen even went as far as investigate the Bizarre Bazarre and purchased a few gothic clothes. As with many of the guesthouses in Whitby during Goth weekend, all the guests that weekend were either goths or people who had heard of the event and came to see what it was all about. We were accepted how we were and with no negative comments about how we looked or odd questions about what we got upto.

I can heartily recommend the Leeway, but book early as it is very popular.
