More about Acer Hotel

Everything was nice!

by TripAdvisor Member Travelinpac

Booked this room based on tripadvisor's reviews. Everything was lovely. I especially liked the location. It is a nice walk to town center - not far at all. The hotel is on a quiet residential street and parking was easy. Good value for the money.

York without the parking problems

by TripAdvisor Member quasargal

My daughter and I had a fabulous weekend at the Acer in York. It was really easy to find and Karen was a lovely person who made us feel like friends staying with her. The service was unobtrusive and everything was excellent. the room was spotlessly clean and the breakfast was really good. She was able to cater at short notice for both our gluten intolerances and got us gluten free bread for the toast in the morning. We did not spend much time in the room with its four poster bed and a single bed but the beds were comfortable and we were able to turn the heating on to the temperature we preferred. The chintzy look was a bit like sleeping in a field of flowers but that did not matter and gave a homely feel. Only one niggle you could not run a bath as the water went cold fairly soon after being turned on and the shower was a bit iffy and trickling, but that did not spoil anything. Lots of coffee and tea available in your room. Nothing felt stinted and we really had a great time.
Best places to visit. The Minster of course but at £11 for 2 of us it felt like a rip-off. The York Castle Museum was fantastic and the best value in the town and they validated our tickets so we could go in again free in the next 12 months as did the Jorvik Centre. We found the Earl Grey tearooms in the Shambles was lovely and we sat in the autumn sunshine in the gardens. The food and wine festival was on and lots of stalls were selling local produce but with very very stingy tiny taste samples. The wall round part of the city walls was lovely on Sunday Morning as the bells of the Minster chimed. The Acer was a fair walk but after a lovely meal on Saturday night at Russells Carvery near the Minster we were glad to walk it off before bedtime.

Another perfect break in York.

This was our second short break in York and every bit as memorable as
the first. We chose the Acer this time from TripAdvisor reviews and loved it. Its clear from Karen's responses to previous reviews that she's a perfectionist. Attention to detail requires hard work, yet the experience was relaxed and welcoming. We (happily) stayed in two different rooms over three nights to suit our dates, and both rooms were as clean and comfortable as we would have hoped for. The en-suite in the double room was a bit space-limited, but acceptable when
you consider the challenges of updating established properties. However, everything worked well, and the breakfasts were first class.
The walk to town was a pleasant 10-15 minutes in our excellent October weather, but might be an issue if its wet. We thoroughly enjoyed the Railway Museum and Big Wheel, the Castle Museum and the River Cruise. In fact, we managed to run out of time and never re-visited any of the attractions we enjoyed on our last visit seven years ago. We will certainly go back, and hope that Karen and the Acer are available when we do.

Excellent value for money

I have just returned home to Lincolnshire after a most enjoyable three day stay at the Acer, with a friend from Bristol. We were both very impressed and felt the Acer thoroughly lived up to its enviable reputation for quality and good service: the breakfast was superb and, to cap it all, we were able to benefit from a special offer of three nights for the price of two. This is the best guesthouse I have stayed in: the room was spacious, with a settee and armchair to watch the television from. The Acer was a home from home and within easy walking distance of the city centre, where everything of interest is so compactly situated. The ability to park one's car outside the house is a great bonus: I wish Karen well with her business: she deserves every success.

fabulous

We had to postpone our original in stay in August as our daughter had
an accident. Karen very kindly sent us a gift voucher, instead of just keeping our deposit, which we used on Oct17th.

We were made very welcome by Karen who is a genuinley lovely lady, and who runs a superb hotel. Breakfast was exceptional being freshly cooked and the rooms are superb and everything beautifully clean.

We were made to feel very at home and wished we could have stayed longer. We thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Very comfortable stay

by TripAdvisor Member John55

Have just returned from 3 very comfortable nights at the Acer Hotel. Rooms very nice (our friends had a double room, we had the four-poster room). Excellent breakfast, freshly prepared. Good location - quiet area, yet York centre only approx 10 mins walk through park. We ate at the Old Siam Thai restaurant on 2 occassions following Karen's recommendation - very good fayre. Karen is an excellent host.

First Class

We have just returned from a very enjoyable 3 day break in York. Staying at the Acer Hotel, an ideal location for a York visit ( 10-15 mins walk to the city center ). We were made very welcome by Karen and the room was very comfortable, clean and warm, with an excellent breakfast. There is a very informative file in the room advising on places to see and equally important where to eat during your stay. Karens knowledge of York is first class as is her hotel.

Acer Hotel - guest house

by TripAdvisor Member Eyepye-7

We chose the Acer Hotel from Tripadvisor reviews and were not disappointed; we paid £75 per night for our room which is en suite, spacious and had a comfortable four poster bed. The guest house is a large old terraced house in a quiet residential area. We were made very welcome by the proprietor Karen, who is a very nice, friendly lady. She gave us a parking permit for on-road parking and we did not need to use the car for the three days we were there but enjoyed the 20 minute walk through the nearby park and Micklegate to reach the city centre – its also an ideal place to stay for the racetrack which is nearby. Karen offers a choice of either an excellent full English or continental breakfast (which can also be served to your room if you wish). There is a very informative file in the room about places of interest and (just as important and very helpful indeed) places to eat. Karen also gave us a free map and she knows her city very well indeed, such a helpful, pleasant lady. Our room was spotlessly clean and the chintz and older furniture went well with the four-poster bed, it was all good quality. The only little niggles were that the shower temperature was rather inconsistent (but not so bad that we felt a need to mention it) and the fact that the sliding door to the en suite bathroom did not close very well so it was possible to see inside from parts of the bedroom, not ideal.

Enjoyable Stay

We booked a 2 night break at the hotel for a party of 4 ,occupying 2 rooms.
Having contacted Karen (the owner) over the phone to book us in, I indicated that one of the party had special dietrey needs (gluten intolerance) so would'nt be able to eat some products. Karen said that this would'nt be an issue as she would check out all the food items that she offered and if need be would look to source suitable alternatives.
On arrival, Karen greeted us and gave a friendly tour of the hotel and room. She then presented a detailed map and highlighted area's of interest and recommended places to eat which was very useful.
The hotel is situated in a quite street, close to the racecourse and a pleasent 20 minute walk from the city walls.
The room was on the small side, but well equipped, with a en-suite shower room / toilet.
Breakfast was first class with a good selection, which catered for all tastes. Regarding the gluten free menu, Karen went out of her way to find suitable alternatives which was much apprieciated.
Would recommend the Acer as an excellent base to explore the city.

Lovely

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at this guest house.
It is situated in a quiet residential area about 15-20 mins stroll from the city centre. Parking is on street for which a voucher is supplied, no problems with spaces. Our room was extremely comfortable, very clean and warm. Karen greeted us on arrival, showed over our room and spent time pointing out the attractions, shops and places to eat.
Breakfasts were excellent. I would definately recommend staying here.
