Amber house is ideally situated, just a short walk (10 mins approx) from all of York's city attractions.
Our room was very comfortable and furnished to a high standard. John and Linda were excellent hosts and breakfast was delicious and hearty.
I can't identify any negatives - it was a perfect stay!
We stayed at Amber House for my husband's birthday. We couldn't have chosen a better place for a few days relaxation. From the moment we entered the front door, we decided we would return. Amber House is a wonderful, hidden gem, with contemporary decor and clean, comfortable rooms. All you need for your stay is a toothbrush, as everything else, including toiletries are there for your use.
Linda and John were extremely friendly and welcoming, with nothing being too much trouble. They can and did accommodate our dietry requirements, with veggie friendly products being provided. Linda even asked what type of products we would prefer.
Sometimes websites and hotel promotions state 'only 5 minutes away from', for Amber House, it's true! It was only 5 minutes away from the centre of York. Far enough away for a peaceful nights sleep but close enough for easy access.
We highly recommend this hotel and hope that anyone else who stays there will have an equally enjoyable time. We've already booked for November.
Just returned from an excellent weekend staying at the Amber house B&B in York. Linda & John were excellent hosts and from the moment we walked through the door we felt relaxed and at home. The house is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean, but for us the main attraction was the amazingly comfortable 6ft bed which can be split to make two singles. So many B&Bs (and hotels) are let down by poor quality, small beds which are usually far inferior to what we have at home but not this one. Other attractions of Amber House include the range of up to date magazines on the landing table just outside our room, the good quality toiletries (not the usual miniscule sachets of shampoo) and the fact that Linda put the towels in the tumble dryer each day so that we didn't have to suffer soggy towels. The breakfasts were also very good with sizeable helpings.
My friend and I have just enjoyed a lovely stay in York which was perfectly complemented by our stay at Amber House.
Linda and John are lovely and cannot do enough for you, their house is fantastic and the bedroom one of the best I have ever stayed in. Breakfast is excellent, and I too would agree that maybe nice music playing in the background would be perfect.
Amber House if literally only 5 - 10 mins away from the Minster. The little touches such as cotton wool balls and cleanser is very nice as it the decoration of the bedroom, good quality sheets and duvet covers.
I will most definatly stay there again when I come to York, and would recommend anyone wishing to visit to choose Amber House.
this is the second year for my partner and me and once again had a lovely stay. Amber house is very tastefully decorated which makes you feel very comfortable and the rooms are wonderfully clean and homely.The whole house has a friendly atmosphere and i hate to use the predictable term home from home but it truly is. i am the type of person who always feels slightly awkward staying in places but not here and with out a doubt we will be back next year. It is also very near all the main attractions in york but just far enough away that it is still peaceful ,John and Linda the owners of amber house are very friendly and nothing was to much trouble and the full english breakfast did set you up for the rest of the day it was very tasty. If you have any special dietry needs they will do everything they can to meet those needs . In short it is a wonderful place that has little touches to make your stay just that bit better.
we found this Guest house one of the nicest we have stayed in, we have a child with Autism which sometimes makes stayng in places he isnt used to rather difficult, but in this case he loved it, the atmosphere that John and Linda create was perfect for him and for us, our room was just lovely, beds very comfortable,and the breakfast we had each morning set us up for a busy day seeing the sights,
we highly reccomend this guest house to anyone who is looking for a friendly comfortable place to stay that is close to the centre of york. (it took us about seven minutes to walk in each day)
we look forward to returning in the near future as there was so much to see we didnt fit it all in our five day stay.
Would highly recommend this bed and breakfast, excellent location, the rooms were of an excellent standard, breakfast was lovely, variety to suit everyone, the owners made us feel really welcome. Will definately visit York again and without a doubt stay at amber house.
A very pleasant place to stay where the hospitality was excellent, room was to a very high standard and was within easy reach of the City's amenities. Everything you would want from a quality guest house.
The owners of Amber house were very welcoming even though we arrived later than originally planned! The room we stayed in was 5* quality with a very comfortable bed, tea and coffee facilities, a flat screen tv and newly refurbished bathroom. The breakfast was was also top quality and Amber house was only 10 minutes walk from York town centre. We will definitely stay there again during our next visit to York.
Lovely place to stay, close to the town and beautifully decorated. I would recommend this Guest House to anyone looking for a convenient and pleasurable stay in York.
