Ascot Lodge Guest House
I had a 2 night stay here. The people were nice and very helpful and accomodating. The bedroom was a bit small but at least it was on the ground floor!
I have to say the breakfasts were not as good as I'd had elsewhere. Tinned tomatoes and I think, powdered eggs. However it was cheap. 25 pounds for a single room and the bed was very comfortable. Dollar for dollar it was a good deal.
Unique Quality: Well located. A bus stop at the front door. Taxi fare was less than 4 pounds to the train station.
The people were very helpful. Even had a card printed out with appropriate bus timetables, numbers etc.
There was a pay phone in the foyer. This I found to be a bonus wherever I went!

Good stay in York
We had a nice stay at Ascot Lodge. The room was very nice and large with a nice big en-suirte bathroom. Breakfast the next morning was excellent with a wide variety of items. The owners were a bit... er... stuffy, but other than that, the stay was wonderful! The price when I went was a a good deal, but may not be as good now as the US dollar has slipped in value. I rated the price and comparative based on the current economy and current price on their website.
