bishops hotel was great

Went to York for my fiance's birthday treat and on a football international weekend so no match to worry about. We had a great weekend. The hotel was very good. The staff were extremely helpful and gave us all the gen we needed to find our way about.
The room itself was warm , the bed very comfortable and the decor was tasteful. It was a nice touch that the toiletries were from Bodyshop and not like washing up liquid.
Breakfast was very good and made to order, so was fresh and tasty. It is within very easy walking distance of Micklegate and the old city walls, so a bus or taxi was completely unnecessary.
And to top it all we got to speak to Marco on the Saturday morning, looking fitter than he did when he played for the lads at Sunderland.
We would certainly recommend it and will definitely go back ourselves.
Fantastic Stay

I treated my boyfriend to a new year break and chose this wonderful boutique hotel after reading the excellent reviews. The room was bright, airy and clean. Breakfast was cooked to order and lovely i must say. We had 2 gorgeous meals out at Rish and The Blue Bicycle. The hotel is walkable into the city if it isnt too cold but you need a taxi back £4.
Would return again.
ps Didnt see Marco.

Stayed 10th Feb for weekend with family (7 in total) The website is very informative - everything looks exactly as it is. The hotel gets top marks and more for cleanliness. The rooms have been very tastefully decorated - the Body Shop toiletries are an excellent idea. The choice for breakfast was excellent - grandson Jack was delighted to find smoked salmon on offer! The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. On top of all this it is a non-smoking establishment - wonderful! It's about 20 minutes walk to the city centre or 10-15 if you don't have children with you. A very enjoyable stay.
Worth every penny

We took a suite here this month and enjoyed every minute of our stay both at Bishops and in York.
The rooms are done out with such taste and style and the breakfasts ware lovely. The hotel is within 15 mins by foot of the centre and Marco and Debs reccomended 2 fantastic restaurants to us and made us feel really welcomed.
It was nice to see one of footballs great legends enjoying life and looking so well on it ( he's put on a few pounds since he played for the old town mind you "go steady with those Bishops breakfasts").
A comfortable stay

We have just returned home from a two-night stay at Bishops and we were impressed with the hotel overall. We stayed in the annexe (room 13) as there were no double rooms available. The annexe itself, although part of the hotel building actually has it's own front door and contained 2 bedrooms. We found the staff on reception to be friendly and the room was comfortable and clean. I especially liked the body shop toiletries in the bathroom. Breakfast was good with a wide selection of choices available. The location was ideal as it was only a 10 to 15 minute walk to the centre of York.
Overall we would recommend this hotel and would return if visiting York in the future.

Just returned from a night at the Bishops in York. We made a very last minute booking but the owners were great right from the first telephone call. It is a small guest house / hotel about 10 minutes walk from the city walls. We stayed in the Rose room on the top floor. It was spaceous, very quiet, with a cd player, video and videos and cd's to borrow. The room had a four poster bed and a comfy couch to sit on. My only complaint is that it is difficult to use the shower standing up and i found myself sat in the bath using the shower! If you want to see pictures of the rooms before you book then use their website to choose your individual room.
Breakfast was served from 8-9 and checkout was at 10 so not the place to stay if you want to lie in!
Anyway, if you are visiting york I would consider staying here.

We have just stayed at this hotel for a 2 day break. I have no complaints at all. The Bishops Hotel is situated just a few minutes walk from the city center. The breakfast choice provided was excellent and the comfort of the rooms was amazing. We stayed in the Ventian suite and feel confident all of the rooms would be to the same high standard. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would absolutely stay again.
Very nice B&B

We stayed here for 3 nights over new years and were very happy with Bishops. We were in the Oak room which was huge and allowed us to have a night in watching a video while crashed out on the sofa after spending all day walking round York. Breakfast and service were both very good and we would thoroughly recommend this. Although the B&B is a little pricey you certainly get what you pay for.
Worth it for the breakfast alone!

Heeding advice from previous Tripadvisor contributors, we chose the Sunflower Suite and were delighted with it. Being at the back it was quiet - Holgate Rd is very busy so I personally would not want a room at the front. It is situated on the second floor in the roof, so was not just a plain shaped room which we liked. It was light, bright, spacious and very pleasantly furnished. The suite contained both a settee and an armchair both comfortable to sit in, as was the bed.
The bathroom was small but the shower was powerful and always hot! I enjoyed using the Body Shop products available as well.
The beverage basket was very well stocked with coffee, tea, chocolate, soup, high standard biscuits and sweets.
An added bonus was having an ironing board and iron in the room.
Bishops Hotel is only a 10 minute walk via Micklegate into the city, which even in the snow we had, was not a problem and a bus runs frequently from just outside the hotel if needed.
We only met two members of staff who were very welcoming, friendly, cheerful and full of information about getting from a to b etc.
The cooked to order breakfast was superb! The choice extensive and it arrived each morning piping hot, fresh and delicious - and this is from someone who usually only has ceral for breakfast - I've got to say they were the best hot breakfasts I've had in many a year in a hotel. There was also a good choice of cereals, fresh fruit, fresh fruit salad, tinned fruits, fruit juices and yoghuts. The breakfast room was furnished to a very high standard and very pleasant to sit in.
We both really enjoyed our stay at Bishops.

I can see how this place has so many great reviews.
We stayed here and had no complaints. It is owned by veteran foot baller Marco Gabbidini and you can see that he is used to the best. The rooms are done out spot on and the breakfasts are canny good. Its a fair walk to the town mind you but the rest of the place makes up for that. We loved it and will be back sooner than later.
