don't be put off by the outside!
by averageyorkshirejoe
The Park Inn hotel is situated on the bank of the river ouse, it is in a brilliant central location between the two bridges. From the outside it looks like a block of council flats with the concrete 1970s facade but don't be put off as you don't stay somewhere for what it looks like on the outside. It is very modern and they are in the process of refurbishing all the bedrooms to a high standard. The bar is glass fronted and on the 1st floor with excellent views over the river and there are 8 floors which have brilliant views of the whole of York and the minster. There's a small but adequate gym but no pool, a restaurant which also overlooks the river and carparking (limited with charge). If you want somewhere really central its a great place to stay, there are fancier hotels (with the prices to match) but i don't think there are friendlier ones of this size.

York Moat House
by fabfourfan
York Moat House was just as expected, a nice clean and good quality hotel, just a few minutes walk from the pedestrian city center of York.
York Moat House is rated four star which I think the hotel deserve, rooms are big, clead and of good standard. The breakfast is ok, with beautiful view over River Ouse.
The hotel is located at North Street with river Ouse as closest neighbour. From your room you can enjoy magnificent views over the York Minister and the river boats!
Hotel staff is very friendly! :)
Have a nice stay!
Unique Quality: Location, room quality, friendly staff, clean, nice view from the room
Directions: From the Railway station walk to the left when getting out of the main entrance, then right under the City Wall, head left at Station street and then to the right before you reach Lendal Bridge

Life on the river bank
by jetwind
Recently re branded as Park Inn
A great hotel located on the river bank. Ideally located close to the main tourist sites of York dungeons, The Shambles and York Minster. Very close to the river boat cruise stops.
The hotel has warm and friendly staff that make you feel right at home. The room I occupied was a deluxe river view room, which offers a large spacious area that have commanding views of the river bank.
The hotel bar is located on the second floor and has great views of the river bank, whilst the restaurant is located on the ground floor and has a more restricted view of the river bank.
The hotel has two lifts and rooms to accommodate disabled guests.
Although it has its own car park it is rather small and can only accommodate about the number of rooms the hotel has, as a consequence it gets full very quickly during peak times causing guests to use the multi storey car park some 500 yards away which is chargeable.

Nice location
by A TripAdvisor Member
Our family stayed for 3 nights over Christmas. Some of the staff were the best we had encountered on our vacation. We did encounter one of the rudest staff members I've ever experienced on any trip anywhere. Fortunetly we did not allow her rudeness to ruin what was a great trip and great service by everyone else. Our room was nice and clean and the location of the hotel couldn't be better.
loss of standards
by TripAdvisor Member dlewis
on the early evening of 5/2/05 we were in the main bar of this hotel, a group of mainly middle aged people were gathered together in the middle of the room.
To my astonishment a lady stripper did what strippers do and then began to undress two male members of the group and perform an act which would have shocked a rugby club stag night.
york is one of my best loved cities and to see a family hotel brougt down to this level is shamefull.
the hotel management should consider what the manny visitors from abroad think of the hotel, york city and the english
Convenient spot for York
by TripAdvisor Member GLG_074
I stayed at the hotel twice for one day each, about a week apart. Both times I received a very small single room with a clean bathroom and bedding. The second time the shower did not drain properly and I had water all over the bathroom floor. The first time the was on a Thursday and I heard no street noise at all. The second time was a Friday night and there was some drunken shouting in the middle of the night.
Overall the room was a safe, convenient spot to visit York for 51 gbp a night as a single traveler. Breakfast was convenient and available early which was nice. The internet connection was convenient and a bonus the first time, but was already broken a week later. The hotel is readily walkable from the train station, even with pull luggage.
