This small, British Asian – run guesthouse is a clean alternative to a lower middle class hotel or chain hotels like travelodge. It is located near the hospital, a 10 minute walk away from either the tourist information or Monk Bar gate.
I use to stay at the Elmbank when I am in York, but due to a big horserace that one became full quickly and the remaining rooms did costs more than a month’s salary. This guesthouse was the cheapest available at the moment and just a little more expensive than a hostel bed.
Unique Quality: The room offered all the amenities you would expect in a similar hotel: Coffee/Tea facilities, ensuite bathroom, fresh towels, etc. The building is quite old, but the rooms are well refurbished and very clean. Breakfast (full English) is included and served in the small breakfast room which also serves as a reception. Indeed, space is not the greatest plus in this guesthouse. The room I stayed in was also rather small, but was worth its money. Kudos to the hotel staff which did its best to help me out with the internet at a time when internet cafes were closed!
