Handy Hotel
This is the third time we have stayed at this Travelodge and have not had a problem on either occasion. On our arrival, because we were staying 2 nights we were allocated a family room 207, away from any possible noise. It was located at the back of the property and was the end room. It certainly was quiet though the hotel was fairly full on Saturday night. The room was a standard Travelodge layout, basic but warm, clean and tidy. The staff were all friendly, helpful and recognised us from previous visits. The bathroom developed a small leak which was fixed whilst we were out. We were given an extra pillow and towels on request. We needed some more milk which was given to us straight away with the offer of additional tea and coffee. Lin and I slept like logs, better than at home. As we intended to hit the shops, cinemas and restaurants the hotel was ideally located and local buses into Northampton were close by. The hotel has a large free first come car park which is covered by CCTV. There is a garage next door with a 24/7 M & S food outlet. There are a variety of restaurants all very close by. Having read some of the other reports it is seems strange how this hotel can be at both extremes of the spectrum. I can only say that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend this hotel to our friends and family.
Being at a bit of a loose end last week, I though I would take a day trip to somewhere (as I often do) and just picked Northampton more or less at random.
What I found was a busy market town with plenty of shops, a very good market (see tip), a very pleasant Guildhall and good museum. I was later told about a good Templar round church in the town, but the weather had turned monsoonal so I didn't go. Well, it is the English summer so the weather was almost bound to turn bad! Other than the things mentioned, I don't really think there is a lot to do here, although I hope I'm not maligning the place by saying that.
Oh, I've just remembered, they have a reasonable rugby team and a football (soccer) team called the Cobblers, reflecting the fact that the town is the centre of the leather and shoemaking industry in the UK.
