A Great Family Day Out-Alnwick Castle and Gardens
"Romance, History and Beautiful Surroundings"
Alnwick Castle and Gardens (when we visited, you could do one or the other or both) are situated near the beautiful Northumberland coast. The Gardens are a masterpiece of horticultural skill and lanscaping wonders. The castle, a short walk from the Gardens) looks a bit forboding at first glance, but this only adds to the romance of an historically significant border fortress.
Owned by the Percy family (the Dukes of Northumberland) since 1309, the castle is still lived in by the family and touring it is a delight to see the little hints of family life as you walk through.
Jane, the current Duchess of Northumberland, took the rejuvenating of the long-ignored gardens to heart and created a stunning array of flora and impressive landscaping, including fascinating fountains.
