Travel Tips for Bamburgh

Bamburgh

by spidermiss

"Bamburgh"

Famed for its red sandstone castle that was built by the Saxons in 550 AD. The castle was used by Northumbrian Royalty during the 11th and 15th Century. After 1804, it was purchased and restored by Lord Armstrong.

Today, visitors can visit the castle and enjoy the exhibitions and artifacts associated with Northumbrians history.

When I was in Bamburgh (in July 2010) I spent the little time I had exploring the unspoilt beaches and sand dunes where in the distance you can see Holy Island (Lindisfarne) and Farne Islands in the distance.
