Budle Bay Campsite: Northumberlands worst site, it could be so good.
I booked for two nights in the wooden tent but stayed only one. It was damp and smelt of mould on inspection part of the floor was black with mould and the electrics where an accident waiting to happen.
The facilities were well past there best, almost everything was broken or just plain manky. Its such a shame as this site is set in an ideal location and with a bit of upgrading could be so nice, but it isn't its so spend a little more and treat yourself to a decent bed and breakfast.
The location is good but thats about it.

Snitter Farm CL.: In the Midst of Lambing...
A great Camping Club CL. in the village of Snitter, a couple of miles west of Rothbury.
This is an 11 acre basic farm site with the only facilities being a tap and chemical disposal point. When we arrived, on Thursday of the Easter week, we were suprised to have the site to ourselves.By the next day, two more caravans and a couple of large tents had joined us. 11 acres still gave Philip plenty of space for footballing and golfing etc.
The farm was in the middle of lambing and vehicles of all types were to-ing and fro-ing in the next field throughout our stay. It didn't bother us. What was interesting was that many of the sheep had had three lambs instead of the normal two. This meant quite a number of the lambs were not strong and had to be given to those sheep that had lost lambs. Farming is certainly a hard life. I don't reckon the owners had much sleep for at least a week.
The site is set in glorious countryside, just outside Thropton, where there are a couple of pubs. Rothbury is just down the road, as is Armstrong's famous house, Cragside. We had the motorbike with us and one afternoon went off exploring many of the small roads around the site. Ideal!
On the Saturday, we watched a massive, very serious forest and moorland fire take hold and spread it's way down the hill towards us. It was still a way off, but I did become quite alarmed when I could see flames with my naked eye.Apparently the village of Harbottle was very nearly evacuated but fortunately the fire was brought under control. It was still smouldering the next day and into the night, with the whole valley being filled with smoke.

Clennell Hall Hotel: Hiden Hotel in Beautiful National Park Northumberl
What a fine hotel, with excellent rooms and a friendly family atmospher! There was great entertainment there, too, as well as fine walking, hiking and cycling opportunities. The views were great, and there is plenty of wild life to watch. The Food was fine, and the bar stays open very late! GREAT!

Ford Castle: Beautiful Countryside
I stayed here as part of residential dance weeked. As it is not generally open to the public you may want to contact the centre manager before you visit.
I have since found out that you can stay here, in a separate building modified in to cottages. I'd love to go and spend a holiday up there as there is so much to do and visit.
It's a castle. How many times do you get to stay in a real castle? The surrounding countryside and views are lovely, you really feel away from all the crowds and all the stresses at home.
