The Ship: A great voyage at 'The Ship' Lindisfarne

We received a great welcome at The Ship. Janice and Andrew, the owners, are there to make sure that you are comfortable and that you have everything you need.

The Inn dates back to the 18 century and is on the road to Lindisfarne Castle.

We had a very pleasant room and everything was first class. The room was en-suite and there was a TV with CD/DVD.

There is a pleasant garden at the Inn and food can be served out there.

The restaurant was excellent.

The Crown and Anchor Inn: Beautiful, peaceful island retreat

In December 07, in need of a short injection of peace and tranquillity, I went for an overnight stay on Lindisfarne, a beautiful, historic island off the Northumberland coast which, when the tide is out, you can access by car accross a causeway . Out of season, it was the perfect escape from an otherwise hectic lifestyle. I stayed at the Crown and Anchor Inn, which is run by Keith and Rachel Shell, both of whom were raised on the island, and who provided a very warm and friendly personal service. Keith is a trained chef, so the food was great, and I also loved my large room with views across the fields towards the harbour and ancient priory. It's a short walk to the fairy-tale Lindisfarne Castle. The longer walks around the remoter parts of the island are just stunning. Returning to the warm and cosy inn after a couple of hours in the bracing sea air made for a perfect retreat.

Traditional old-world charm of the country inn

The Open Gate: Christian Retreat

Bear in mind that accomodation on Holy Island is limited - about 40 rooms on the island so to avoid disappointment it is best to book ahead - we were most blessed to get a cancellation.
We nearly stayed at this place - the Open Gate which is a christian guest house retreat....but we were only stopping a night and continental breakfast was offered here as opposed to a good fry up!
No set rates but trhe following are given as guidelines:
£27.00 per person per night - two persons sharing
£32.00 per night single occupancy
£3.00 Lunches
£7.50 Evening Meals

The Lindiosfarne accomodation link below provides further info on this and all the other guest accomodation on Lindisfarne as well as the surrounding area.

Rose Villa: Rose Villa

We booked on the spur of the moment at this B&B situated on Holy Island, near Fiddlers Greeen. We later learnt we had got a cancellation here and were fortunate - the few properties available on the island tend to get booked up well in advance.

This one is reputed to be one of the best on the island too. Well I can't comment on the others - we've only stayed in this one but it was very comfotable, lovely room with en-suite bathroom. The owner was friendly and provided us with a delicious cooked breakfast served in the dining room on a long table with her other guests. Very professional service by Mrs Barbara Kyle who has been doing so for 20 years. Car parking availbale outside.
Highly recommended. Cost £25 pppn Note credit cards not taken but village store can get cash for you on your card if needed for a small fee.
