Travel Tips for Nottingham

National Ice Centre

by iwys

The National Ice Centre is one of the top ice stadiums in the country. It cost £43 million to build and houses two ice rinks, one of which transforms into Nottingham Arena for concerts. Britain's oldest ice hockey team, the Nottingham Panthers play here, with seats for 7,500 spectators. It is also one of the top venues for ice skating.

The oldest Inn in England

by peopletree about The "Olde Trip to Jerusalem"

You can't visit Nottingham and not call in for a pint at the "Trip". The place is an institution that first served beer in 1189. A friendly mix of locals and tourists from all over the globe. Sample a pint of warm "real ale" in one of the caves hewn from the rocks and have a go at hooking the horn with the ring? There's a knack to doing it and usually helped by having downed a few beers first! A MUST SEE! Anything you want to wear!

by raquelitalarga about Higoi

Higoi is an intimate restaurant of about 8 tables with outstanding food.
We ordered about seven dishes which we shared between the three of us. You cannot watch the chef at work but when it arrived ... we had to draw lots over who had the last piece of seared tuna or the melt in the mouth beef teppanyaki! So although less entertaining than the Ginza restaurant in Sherwood the food is probably higher quality. We were first there at 7.30 but by 8pm it was full. A couple of customers came in to order takeout.
The only downside is that the location is outside the city centre and not on a good bus route, therefore we arrived by taxi.

Street Theatre

by illumina

There always seems to be something going on in the streets of Nottingham - the last time we were there there was a man leaping over, through and on to knives and broken glass. Keep your eyes open, it's bound to be entertaining!

Ye Olde Salutation Inn

by iwys

Ye olde Salutation is one of the oldest pubs in Nottingham. Archaeological excavations have revealed there was a Saxon settlement on this site in the ninth century. The first large stone building, a tannery, was built here in 1240. The oldest timber in the current building has been dated to 1360.
