Disappointment

by A TripAdvisor Member

The double room promised was no more than a single with a 3/4 bed. Towels were provided for one person and, if you visited the health club one was expected to take the towel from your bedroom as no otheres were available.

"Extras" included car parking at a rate more comparable with London than rural England.

Health club facilities were reasonable but there was a general air of neglect, hose pipes left lying around, doors to plant rooms left open.

Bars, reception and restaurants were staffed to an absolute minimum and were quickly overwhelmed if more than two customers arrived at once.

Better than we expected

We booked a special deal for 2 nights at this hotel. Had read other reviews and did not know what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. Room was slightly smaller than others we had stayed in and bed was smaller than a double but bathroom and bedroom very clean. Toilet space could have been a bit cramped if you were a large person.
Breakfast good and evening meal good. Staff were excellent and dining area good. No complaints about bar and staff again good.
Would definitely stay again. Location excellent and able to park car in hotel car park at reduced rate. Double glazing good and no problem with outside noise (if there was any).

Not the Mini Double!!!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights as par of a wedding party. We were placed for the first night in a mini double room. This is really a single room and should not be sold as a double. With 2 people in the room it becomes unbearably hot and very uncofortable to sleep in. We were changed to a real double room for the second night and have no complaints about that. Breakfast was fine. The decor is dated butthe place is kept clean and tidy and the staff were friendly and helpful. If you get a cheap deal by all means stay here but make sure that you are not booking a "Mini Double"

Go elsewhere

Room OK but not enough towels as mentioned by others.

Restaurant truly dreadful.

Although we went by train they added car parking charges to our bill, stating that they would be removed at checkout - WHY?!

Swimming pool too small to be useful.

Same fag end on the lift floor for 4 days - says it all.

Need to rename the hotel as it has been rebranded Crowne Plaza

This is a very nice hotel without a doubt.... the lounge, bars and restaurants are great, the location is very central yet the hotel is quiet. Interesting architecture also, and very convenient and unexpensive car park.

The rooms are very clean, nice bathroom, all the right amenities - shame that the room is so small though. Anyhow I'd come back, it's certainly a nice hotel in Nottingham.

Better than most people let on

by A TripAdvisor Member

Stayed at this hotel for the last three weeks
the hotel is still under going its transformation from the moat house to the crowne plaza, the new rooms are very good with plasma screens and minibar, the older rooms are still in use but are clean and tidy, the hotel bar and restaurant is good but soon they too will be revamped, car parking is a joke at the reduced price of £9.50 per night for residence

Not a great hotel

by TripAdvisor Member amp1

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights April 28th and April the 29th 2006, this is rated as a 4 star hotel and costs 178$US per night for a double. We arrived around 9pm after a long 4hr journey by car, well there is no parking! you either have to drive to a very shady NCP Car Park or try their valet service which we did. We explained we would need the car the next evening to attend a wedding reception and was told no propblem , on the day they had forgotton... and we had to wait for 45 mins to get the car , on our return at 11.30pm we were told oh no its shut you will have to find a car park in the city. We spoke to the duty manager who would not give her name and was maybee 18 years old , who couldnt care less, as it was saturday night and she was more intrested in getting memebers of the public into the bar.....,why worry about the guests .
The rooms are ok , not great , but ok . We had opted for the exuctive upgrade and requested hypo allengenic pillows as I suffer from asthma,, this was featured in their blurb for the exuctive upfgrade. well , we were told , oh we only have 6 hypo allengic pillows for the whole hotel and were given Feather pillows.. finally we were brought two completly flat strips of pillows ,one each , and told to make do...
The next night they found some cushions for us. Really guys this is not a 4* star hotel and is not worth the 178$ud per night , only go if all the other hotel are full.

Nice, clean hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on a Saturday night and found the location excellent for our stay which was only a short walk to the Nottingham Ice Arena and meant we could also go for a few drinks in the city afterwards without needing a taxi. I did wonder whether it would be rather noisy in view of the clubs and bars nearby but this was not the case. The hotel was very very clean and we got an excellent rate for a double room including breakfast. The only negative point was that we were given a smoking room but you would not have been able to tell as it did not smell of stale smoke at all. The bar area was comfortable and a good area for relaxing and although we did not have an evening meal in the restaurant it looked very nice and reasonably priced. Would definately recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Nottingham and will return ourselves in the future.

Nice Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member bobbinuk

We stayed here for one night in May and were impressed with what we experienced. All the rooms have now been refurbished and we stayed in a double which was a good size, clean and comfortable. We picked the hotel for its leasure facilities so it was slightly dissapointing to find the sauna had been out of action for about a week (as told to me by a leasure club member) the jaccuzi on the Sunday was also out of order, luckily we had used it the night before! The swimming pool is a decent size and there is also a steam room. For breakfast we had the full english option and the breakfast buffet was well stocked for continental as well.

The staff were very helpful and friendly and advised us on some retaurants when we asked where was good to eat. The location is excellent and we were 2 minutes walk to the cornerhouse complex and some bars where there are also some restaurants (the flaming dragon chinese restaurant in the complex is very good value)

We had a good stay and would go there again.

Disappointment.

by A TripAdvisor Member

Was very disappointed by this hotel.
Room was v.small and as it was hot had to use air conditioning which was very noisy and also gave me a sore throat the next morning.
Health club was ok but a bit dirty and there seemed to be one member of staff for the whole place. Plus half of the facilities were not working.
Breakfast was pretty good, bu v.expensive if not included in the price of room.
If you get a cheap deal then fine, but I think it could be better.
