FREE CAR PARKING IN NOTTINGHAM
by apoppy
Does anyone know of anywhere in Nottingham city centre where I can park for free?
It doesn't matter if it requires a long walk, just need to save the pennies!!!!!
Re: FREE CAR PARKING IN NOTTINGHAM

It really depends upon which direction you're arriving from. There's free parking in the suburbs close to the City Centre which would leave you about a mile / mile and half walk into the centre. However, like a lot of suburbs close to city centres, the safety of your car could be in doubt!
Alternatively, try the Forest Park & Ride site on Gregory Boulevard just north of the city. Head up the hill, through the trees and follow the tramlines, past the arboretum and it's about a mile into town. Then if it's raining on the way back you can always catch the tram. (£1.10).
The Forest Park & Ride site has the benefits of CCTV and a security guard. But there's no parking charrge as you pay to park & ride on the trams.

Travel Tips for Nottingham
Nottingham Greyhound Stadium
by northeast80
I went here some time ago (2001) for a friends Birthday and we had a fantastic time, I think I just about broke even. And we discovered that the bigger the dog the more likely it was to win the race, big emphasis on the more, not all the time.
There was a bar serving £1.50 pints, chips and gravy and that kind of food.
We made a few bets, mostly each way, when I was there you could put a minimum bet of £1 on so being poor students of course we did so.
At first, if you've never being to a place like that, it can seem a little daunting, but just talk to someone who look like they know what they're doing! It's very friendly atmosphere, everyone shares in with eachothers triumphs and tribulations.
Admission on the current website is £5 per adult. And race days are-
Monday - 18.00 - 23.00
Friday - 18.00 - 23.00
Saturday - 18.00 - 23.00
Tuesdays (special children free morning)
There is free parking or you could take bus numbers 44 and 45.
Old Castle Ruins
by iwys
In the grounds of Nottingham Castle, you can still see some of the ruins of the original 12th century castle, including the foundations of the Middle Bailey wall and lower section of the north-eastern tower, the Middle Bailey Bridge and Gatehouse. Most of these ruins are to the right of the modern castle, as you enter.
The Chief cook
by redtrike1 about Cozinho do navio
It would be rather churlish of me (what a word) to complain about my wifes cooking. However she is a good cook and given the limitations of the boats 'galley she did really well.
The food by necessity has to be basic, but as I have said in previous pages, there are plenty of eating places along the banks of the rivers and canal serving everything from fast food to haut cuisine. (had a reeaallly nice steak with wine in one place - cheap too) Breakfast.
You cant beat a good English breakfast after you have been up for an hour or 2. It sets you up for the rest of the day. plus of course its not that difficult to cook in a limited space.
Robin Hood
by uglyscot
Everyone has probably heard of Robin Hood who stole from the rich to help the poor and lived an outlaw in Sherwood Forest. His band of men included Little John, Friar Tuck, Will Scarlett, Maid Marian, Alan a Dale and others. His arch enemy was the Sheriff of Nottingham.
Inside the castle walls is a jousting yard, and outside are statues of Robin and has followers.
Council House
by iwys
The Council House, which overlooks Nottingham's Old Market Square, was opened in 1929 by the Prince of Wales. It was designed by Cecil Howitt. In medieval times this was the site of the meat market, known as the Shambles.
The city council's offices are here, as well as the Sheriff of Nottingham's. I took a group of Russians to meet him here, and after watching Robin Hood movies, I think they were a bit surprised to find he was black and a nice guy.
