More about The Nottingham Belfry

Fabulous

by TripAdvisor Member HANNAHDerby

This hotel is the best i have ever stayed in. We had a suit and it amazing. The hotel is clean and modern. We ate there and it was excellent. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Great loved it- can't wait to stay again.

disappointing

by TripAdvisor Member jellyfish007

We booked our accomodation several months in advance as we required accomodation for a disabled person who is a wheelchair user .......
our room was given away to someone else prior to our arrival which meant that the bathroom facilities were totally inadequate for the disabled persons needs
the bed sheet had a large tear and 2 of the pillowcases were stained
breakfast was delivered 15mins late and only after a phonecall to remind staff, breakfast was awful cold soggy toast no butter nor side plate

Not quite 4*

by TripAdvisor Member Marcl415

Booked this last minute for the bank holiday weekend.
LOCATION:- A very modern contemporary styled hotel but situated within a business park, not the romantic setting i was hoping for.

CHECK IN:- easy and efficient by friendly staff.

ROOM:- We had a standard room which was decent sized and well equipped and very clean. The bathroom had a seperate shower and bath with heated mirror (no steaming up!) and again was very clean. NO AIR CON in the rooms and our room in particular was like an oven overnight, very uncomfortable. the window only opens about 50mm for security which let hardly any air into the room.

LEISURE FACILITIES:- Used the pool which was nice, clean but small (any more than 6 at once was overcrowded). Jacuzzi was set within the pool which was very nice and relaxing. Sauna & steam rooms were clean and worked very well. Didn't use the gym but had a quick look in which seemed well equiped and again modern and clean.

LAWRENCE RESTERAUNT:- The service was very poor. Ordered a bottle of wine as soon as we sat down which didn't arrive. Told the staff twice and it eventually arrived as we were having dessert which by then was too late. They did send the wine to our room complimentary by way of an apology so i didn't take the matter further. The food was nice but seemed overpriced for what we got, all veg, potatoes etc wasn't included with the meal but was available at an additional cost. We finished the meal with coffee and again had to remind the staff twice that we were still waiting. When we got the bill it took two attempts to get it correct.

CHECK OUT:- had to wait about 15 mins as a lot of people were checking out at the same time.

Would certainly visit again as the rates were quite reasonable.

Certainly not as good as it thinks it is

by TripAdvisor Member saphi

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for one night. It was convenient to the motorway but quite a way out of town. Taxi £10 each way if you don't want to drive.

Reception
Friendly and efficient

Room
Small, great shower and very clean. Sadly it was quite a chilly weekend and the room was very cold. No heating available.

Bar Area
Air conditioning was switched on full, totally unnecessay. The staff were all in woolie cardies. It was distinctly chilly. Poor service generally.

Restaurant
The service was extremely poor. A very long wait before taking our order or providing the wine menu. Menu quite varied but food cold and mediocre. Vegetables all charged extra and very small portions. We love desserts but left without because we would probably still have been there at breakfast time. Restaurant quite chilly also.

General
The hotel did have two wedding on the evening we stayed. That is all very well but the management need to remember that there are other paying guests who are also entitled to good service. At the main entrance to the hotel there was a revolving door, the two doors either side of this were wedged open all evening along with the air conditionly being on, it made for a very cold experience.

There is an outdoor quadrangle/patio area where guests can sit and have refreshments and smokers can also use. Ashtrays were left overflowing for the duration of the evening. Glasses were occasionally cleared but not the ashtrays. Disgusting. One patio heater was provided (no gas) for such a large area. The place for the gas canister was full of rubbish which had obviously been there for a while. Not impressive.

Would i stay here again? A resounding NO. This hotel is not deserving of its 4* status.

I choose this hotel based on my stay at a sister hotel, The Forest Pines, Broughton where I had stayed the previous two nights. The Forest Pines was absolutely wonderful and nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

Far from 4 star...

by TripAdvisor Member Monty2212

Possibly the worst 4 star hotel I've ever been in... Whilst the rooms were nice, staff were rude, food was way over priced and location left a lot to be desired! We actually felt we were putting the staff out by ordering a drink or food and the receptionist was just rude. I'm still a little stunned that this hotel is considered 4 star, definitely would not recommend to a friend!

Not The Best Service Ever At This Alleged 4 Star Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member Stonemason12

Well, what can I say. We booked with a friend for a relaxing overnight stay. The sauna was small and crowded, the jacuzzi was nice, and pool was as big and as deep as a paddling pool!

The rooms were impressive on first glance. However, looking closely they were very dusty. Dusty skirtings and even the tissue holder in the bathroom was dusty! Not the type of cleanliness Id expect from a 4 star hotel.

We were expecting an executive room, but were allocated a standard room adjoining an executive.

The staff at the hotel did not seem to know their own roles and responsibility. Only the concierge seemed to have any idea and I think thats because he was an older gentleman and obviously understood what a work ethic is.

At the bar it took ages to get served. When we did the round of drinks cost an absolute fortune. Tables in the bar were dirty and not clear. The tables in the courtyard this morning were again uncleared, dirty and ash trays full of cigarette buts from the evening before. The patio heater was dismantled and left unattended. Not ideal considering the amount of small children around.

The heat in the bedrooms was unbelievable. It was like being abroad! Absolutely roasting. So if you go, make sure you buy lots of bottled water and take it with you.No air conditioning, and windows that only opened about 2 inches.

We had dinner in the hotel too. This again was a joke. The waiters/waitresses had no idea of the table numbers. They were wandering round with food and drinks unable to determine who had ordered what and where. We were served the wrong drinks, the waitresses were surly and to be honest rude!

One gentleman waiter was obviously trying his very very best. However his spoken english wasnt great, and he looked very nervous. Obviously some staff training in all areas is necessary.

When the food did eventually come it was dry and boring (Steak). The lamb was ok. And it has got to be the strangest Chicken Caesar Salad Ive ever experienced. Drinks/wine is expensive and you have to order your vegetables as 'side dishes' with your main meal. Value for money it is not.

The only good thing I have to say really, is that the cooked english breakfast this morning was cracking! However, be careful if you ask for coffee/tea. They obviously have no idea of customer service and you have to hold your cups away from the table for them to be able to pour it in. Clearing the crockery away was an experience to behold. A poor waitress with a tray as big as her and no manners whatsoever. Again, no idea of how to clear tables in a quick and efficient manner.

To say its been given 4 stars, the service we received did not reflect this. Silver service, etiquette, cleanliness and customer service is something which has clearly been overlooked. Instead, you get flash/modern decor (which is dusty), untrained staff and a 'cant be bothered attitude' from the very young team who 'can be bothered' to turn up for work!

I can only suggest that they stick to making English Breakfast and providing them to the workmen on the bypass nearby.

This is only my personal view, so if you've booked or are thinking of booking, check out the other reviews people are posting. Better still check out another hotel. Overall probably one of the worst experiences Ive ever had in a hotel.

The only godsend was that we had excellent company in the shape of our friends and quite frankly laughed our way through the evening/experience.

Spacious rooms, good value

by TripAdvisor Member keann

Stayed on a Friday and Saturday night. Very modern hotel on outskirts of Nottingham near motorway. Easy to find. Well decorated and spacious public areas. Standard rooms are nice, extremely large (biggest I have seen) and clean. Massive double bed. Pristine bathroom had both bath and large shower cubicle. Breakfast buffet OK, service good on Saturday but poor on Sunday (a lot of guests opted for a late breakafast and there was not enough staff to cope). Took taxi into Nottingham - no hassle - £10 one way.
Price for room and breakfast was very competitive.
Overall a nice relaxing stay and good value for money - would definitly use the Belfry again. However, if you want old and quaint or a city centre location this isn't the hotel for you.

Not too bad for the money

by TripAdvisor Member 3001

This hotel is slightly strange. It's stuck out in the middle of nowhere on the edge of a business park. However, the building itself if quite nice. The public areas are nice enough, reception staff very helpful. The room we stayed in was large, comfortable and in a good state of repair. The only real downside was service in the restaurant at night which was slow and poor. The staff were pleasant enough, but not very competant. Otherwise, a nice stay in a clean and efficient hotel.

OK but sack the waiters

by TripAdvisor Member Redrated

Having now stayed in most of Nottinghams so called top hotels on business I have come to an inescabable conclusion. There are no good hotels in Nottingham. If you tend to stay at Hyatt regency rather than at Travel Lodge then where ever you stay in Nottingham you will be disappointed. That said you could do worse than the Belfry. It is located a stones throw off Jt 26 of the M1 so lots of road noise outside but convenient for business. The building is completely characterless and looks like a travel lodge. Inside however it is very contemporarily decorated. Standard Rooms are a good size and nicely decorated and lit with lots of recessed spots. My room had a seperate shower and bath. All rooms also have 32in flat screen tvs although both times I have stayed here I have had problems accessing the film channels. Attached to the Hotel is a Leisure complex you can use with good gym, indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi. The room service menu was ok.
what really let this hotel down was the standard of service. On each of the different times I stayed room service took over 30 mins. On each occassion I had to rephone to check if orders had been lost (and although they always said the food was on its way it invariably arrived about 10 mins after the repeat phone call making me suspect they had lost the order). The room service food was often luke warm when it arrived and the ice cream had clearly been partially defrosted and refrozen as it had that unpleasant ice crystal texture.
Service at breakfast in the restaurant was also very poor. On 2 different mornings despite asking for toast when I sat down it failed to arrive. On the first morning I reminded the waiter and it still failed to arrive so after 20 mins waiting I left. On the second morning I asked for white toast. Again after 15 mins still no toast. Again I reminded the waiter and was eventually served with brown and white toast. Really very poor. There were other lacks of attention to detail by the staff (like not telling you the exit code for the car park).
In summary as a business hotel it is fine appart from the staff but its location (on the M1) would preclude me from taking my wife there.

Shambolic Restaurant Service

by TripAdvisor Member chilly123

A party of ten of us went for a birthday celebration Sunday dinner. The place wasn't busy and there seemed to be plenty of staff hovering around. The problem was none of the staff were motivated or interested in providing us any kind of service. Having asked for drinks order 3 times we gave up and fetched it ourselves from the bar. No one seemed to be in charge. I fully recommend this place if you want to be left alone.
