More about Thoresby Hall Hotel & Spa

you don't have to be over 60

by TripAdvisor Member lrac

We are a fairly young couple (35yrs) compared to warners usual guest and hoped for a more younger clientel on a SKA break and we got it, as usual checkin was a breeze and the luggage was delivered to our room rather quickly. We splashed out on the ultimate room (Royale 522) and it was amazing, clean and a free movie package along with a friut and sherry welcome pack. Now they do say you can't eat your hotel or room and this is totally true, the food was not completely up to scratch our food from the griddle (chicken) being served raw which was returned and another option taken. The carvery is not so good as other warner hotels as only 1 meat is offered, if you don't like it your options are limited.
The entertainment was fantastic with Blondie, Badness and Bad manners all doing their bit, but on the downside were the bar prices which are completely out of this world ( bacardi and coke single £ 3.90). If we had been clever we would have done what the other guest already new, dip in to your bag for your own bottle.

The staff are friendly and the hotel grounds are superb which does make for a relaxing break but if you are not nearing or over retirement age choose your break carefully, as the entertainment is geared up for the older generation. If you can book a meal in the Blue room it is superb food and service and always buy a brand name wine as the house wine is very very poor quality and still high in price. Would we go again NO we think Cricket st Thomas is far far better.

Excellent Hotel and Spa

by TripAdvisor Member Stringy03

My mum and I went on a 1 night spa break to Thoresby Hall in December 2006. The hotel was excellent and the food was out of this world. There is a good choice of foods to suit every taste. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable with everything you need.

The spa was very good, although a little disorganised re booking in, but the treatments were fantastic and it was very relaxing.

Entertainment in the evening was good they had a comedian on who was very funny. I enjoyed the fact that it was an adult only hotel and although I was the youngest by far it was still a very good break and I would recommend it to all.

by TripAdvisor Member 1GOODTIMES1

I booked a suprise over night spa experience for my mum as a christmas present. We were both delighted with every aspect of our stay. The staff were genuinely nice and helpful, not 'cloned' which was refreshing. The food superbe and great vaule for money the nights intertainment was as good as a show on in the westend of london. The facilities at this hotel were absolutely impeccably clean full marks to the lovely lady who cleans them. The spa experience was truly wonderful we have come away feeling relaxed and refreshed......all this in a breath taking location makes for a great break away.

We will definaly be returning!

relaxing break

by TripAdvisor Member helenf23

I stayed at the hotel for two nights for a mother, daughter relaxing break.

On arrival the check in was very slow, we felt like we had wasted the day waiting around for our room.

We booked to stay in an Ambassador plus room in the main house, and it was lovely. Well worth paying the £10 to upgrade from the standard rooms in the annex. We had a welcome drink, basket of fruit and a box of chocolates waiting in our huge room. As it was in the old house it had big windows and superb views over the gardens and surrounding countryside.
The only negative was the beds were very short and had a plastic sheet on the matress so was very uncomfy.

Our main purpose of the trip was to use the spa facilities, and we werent dissapointed. We had a hot stone sea and sences massage and it was pure heaven!! The pool etc were fantastic.
Couldn't fault it one bit.

The food overall was really good, but if we had been before we would have eaten both nights in the Bistro restaurant as it was all waiter service and the food was fantastic, far better quality than the buffet restaurant.

In the evening we watched a soul night put on by the entertainment team. On the second night there was a comedian who was so funny.
It was strange as at exactly 11pm when the shows ended all the over 65 left withing 5mins of one another. It was like follow the leader! Leaving about 20 people to enjoy the disco or late night live. (ours was with Paul, one of the in house entertainment team. He was brilliant.)

Overall it was just what we were after:
* good food
* lovely location - great for walking
* Fantastic spa
* Very relaxing
I would go again but would of loved to have seen more under 65's there. As due to this been the approx age of the majority of the guests there wasnt much day time entertainment for anyone else. Tea dances and ballroom dancing arent really my thing!!
But as we didnt go for that sort of thing it didnt bother either of us.

sickness at thoresby hall

by TripAdvisor Member sharonagate

Having stayed at Thoresby Hall for a 2 night spa break 3 out of the 4 of us have gone down with some sort of sickness. It may have something to do with the spa not being cleaned properly. Rubbish that was in one of the steam rooms on Saturday was still there on Sunday. Prime contender for breading germs in a hot humid atmosphere. Could have something to do with the chief sticking his fngers in all of the poached eggs trying to find us a soft one. Noticed the warnings in the toilets about washing hands and using the anti-bac now I know the reason why. Have noticed someone in June got food poisoning from this hotel. we dont know who to contact as Warners do not want to know. Anyone got any suggestions? Would not stay there again and would not reccomend. They are advertising a 5* hotel and service and giving a 1 or 2 t the most

Excellent Spa

by TripAdvisor Member aduf12

My friend and I stayed here for one night on 25th March for her 30th birthday. We had to pay extra for our room as the hotel was nearly full and it was one of the few they had left when we booked. However it was worth it. It was a signature room and looked newly revamped. The only qualm was the shower was not up to scratch but nothing too serious.

We stayed here predominantly for the Spa facilities beacause it was something we wanted to try. We had booked a spa break and got two 3 hour spa sessions included in the break along with a 25 minute treatment (also dinner and breakfast). Although we were spa novices and have nothing to compare to, we feel the spa was excellent value. It was also very quiet which was great to say the hotel was full.

We ate in the Bistro restaurant which we also found good from a service and food point of view.

The only couple of drawbacks we found were that we were in a minority age group. All the other clientele seemed to be at least over 50. Therefore the entertainment was geared towards this age group. Also the prices of drinks were expensive, which I suppose is to be expected in a hotel.

We found all the staff friendly and helpful and if anything the rudest people were the other guests. I think they thought that younger people shouldn't be allowed in 'their' hotel. On a couple of occasions we found people with no common courtesy or manners at all!

On the whole the break was great and I would recommend the spa to anyone. If however we had booked without the spa we would have felt totally isolated by our age. On the plus side we felt extremely young for the duration of the stay!!!

Relaxing and enjoyable

by TripAdvisor Member hols31Berkshire

I took my fiancé to the hotel for a 2 night midweek break for something different to do for his 30th. We stayed in a Spa room which
had a nice little patio outside where we could sit and enjoy the scenery (and which attracted quite a few visitors -squirrels and a peacock!).

We dined at Le Bistro both nights where the food was gorgeous and the service extremely efficient and friendly.

As well as our 3 hour spa experience each day we had some treatments done (massage, facial and scalp massage) which were lovely and the therapists very friendly. The ladies changing rooms weren’t very clean and had a bit of a smell but according to my other half the men’s were better.

As per another review on this site I agree that we were totally outnumbered in terms of the 'older' generation. The entertainment was
geared totally towards the older folk so we didn’t really enjoy it but everyone else seemed to be having a good time.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay at Thorsby and would recommend it for a relaxing break in a nice hotel and surroundings.

spa weekend suprise

by TripAdvisor Member violetteHull

This is the first time I have stayed at a Warner Hotel, I have always been a little worried that it would be full of 'oldies'. How could I have been so wrong!
The accomadation was beautiful, the food varied plentiful and fantastically presented. The staff were freindly and informative, especially Layla in the Bistro on Saturday night. The Spa was lovley and a real experience, again the staff were informative and freindly
The only downside to the visit were to be honest the people, I heard people complaining about the way a steak was cooked but never mentioned it to the waitress a woman complaining about a meal that clearly said Basil mash on the menu, eating half of everything on her plate and then deciding that she wanted something else! I dont know the staff managed to stay so cheerful and pleasant
I loved my stay and will certainly be recommending it to frends and family

Spa bliss

by TripAdvisor Member JoWilson

Stayed with a friend as part of a birthday celebration. Had a few problems booking online as we had a cancellation policy included that we couldn't get rid off (and ended up having to pay for despite booking only two weeks beforehand) and didn't acually know that we'd successfully made the booking (had to phone Warner to get confirmation.) We were a bit disappointed that no information was provided by post, particuarly as we'd had problems booking online.

On arrival we found the receptionist to be rude and uninformative. We arrived fifteen minutes before the usual book in time of 2pm and were told we were not allowed to go into the room because of 'health and safety' checks!! Never heard such rubbish. The recpetionist wanted us to leave our bags in the middle of reception and the bell boy would take to our room in due course. As there was no one about to leave our bags with - we sneaked into our room with our bags so that we could make our 2pm appointment in the spa.

The treatments were lovely and the beauticians were wonderful. We were left in the spa to find out what to do and where things were (there was no one about) which was a shame because we didn't find the pool until the second day.

I have to say that we both felt rather young compared to the rest of the visitors. The spa was better and had a greater range of age groups.

The food was fine. Both dinner and breakfast had plenty of choice.

Not a cheap break. We felt that the staff could have provided more information (and there certainly seemed to be plenty of staff but not always very proactive.)
