Pub meal for 15 people

by doofus

Hi,
I am trying to organise an afternoon meal/buffet for 15 family members for a Saturday afternoon in Nottingham. Preferably centre or not far from it.
I like the idea of a pub sort of setting. Does anyone have any ideas of pubs etc that could accomodate us and, of course, with good food and beer and pleasant surroundings.

In the evening we would like to find a place close to Park Plaza Hotel that may put on a sort of 'finger buffet' for the group.

I would appreciate any help at all -- looking for a saturday in late september.

regards, pete

You could ask The Bell on Market Square. They have a lot of small rooms and may hire them out to groups.

Mel,
Many thanks for that. I have emailed the pub and am now waiting for a reply.

Once again, thanks.

Pete

The Bell is nice, we had a big group in a room at the top for traditional Sunday lunch once, and they have good beer.
More recently we had a lunch at The Orange Tree, Shakespere Street, which is quite a modern pub, but still reasonable, I had a huge salad for about £5.
If you want to go somewhere really unusual and local to Nottingham there's the Trip to Jerusalem, a very old pub near the castle. Good beer and ales.
As you seem to be doing anyway a phone call to the pubs would help, as you know Saturdays are busy and they may need a booking.
Shimla Pinks in Hockley is a good Indian place.
The Malt Cross is an unusual setting, in a small old theatre, they do light lunches, good coffee and teas.
At the moment I can't think of buffet type places. Does your hotel do one for dinner?

Thanks a lot for that. I have managed to have a look at those places on the net. Looks good to me. Thanks

Travel Tips for Nottingham

Nottingham's Pubs

by iwys

Nottingham has more pubs per thousand people than any other city in Britain. Many of them are very old, including the oldest pub in the country, Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, and many of them have interesting histories, like the one in the picture, the Royal Children. Other noteworthy pubs in the city, include Ye Olde Salutation Inn, the Bell Inn and Yates's Wine Lodge.

The water of the River Trent is said to be the best water in England for brewing beer - a bit like the River Liffey in Ireland.

Inside Trip To Jeruslem - The Booth

by Nixter01

Once used to form part of the private quarters and was used as a museum. Today visitors from all over can sit and relax with a pint whilst looking at further historical knowledge, pictures and photos.

See the stars

by iwys about Nottingham Arena

Nottingham Arena has a capacity of nearly 10,000. The arena doubles as one of the ice rinks in the National Ice Centre.

Forthcoming attractions include Eric Clapton, Elton John and Pink. Recent concerts have included Bob Dylan, Oasis, Greenday and Franz Ferdinand. Westlife have appeared here ten times, which is more than any other performer, but the biggest audience ever was for Jack Johnson.

Ticket prices vary from £26.50 for Pink up to £50 for Elton John.

Lion

by bonio about Lion

A lunchtime visit, several real ales to choose from (tasters no problem) and a full menu on the blackboard.
Enjoyed a very tasty steak and ale pie and a couple of pints too. Good place to visit.
Looks like live music most weekends, a re-visit must be on the cards soon I think.

Catch a concert at the Albert Hall

by Flem2002

Not quite as big as London's Albert Hall, but this venue has some quality concerts in a plush surrounding. Local choirs and bands perform here - sometimes free - and there are other tournaments and events here through the year. A calandar of events appears on their website.
