Sheep Street

No surprise why one of the 'main' streets in Burford is so named! It's a delightful little street off High Street. Most people will come across it as its the location of both The Lamb Inn and Bay Tree Hotel - regarded as two of the best hotels and restaurants in the region. But with its honey-coloured Cotswold stone buildings, it's a real highlight of the town - even if the overspill of parked cars from the High St can mar the view.

Weekend break in the cotswolds
by bennetbabe
We're planning a weekend break during late November or early December time for 2 youngish couples! Can anyone recommend accommodation. We're looking for the Olde English setup of Country pubs/hotels with an open fire and nice cosy surroundings, in a lovely rural area with nice walks to good old country pubs. Any recommendations greatly received. Thanks

If you want to pay a little extra, there's The Dial House at Bourton on the water, very picturesque village with a stream running through the middle, a model train museum, a perfume factory and museum and a butterfly farm. There's also the Bay Tree Hotel in Burford. Burford is very quaint. Don't miss out the old fashioned sweet shop, where you can buy lots of old fashioned sweets out off jars. Also, suggest a visit to the Slaughters and Stow on the Wold.
I wouldn't say the countryside of the cotswolds itself is particularly spectacular. Rather it's the combination of the countryside and the quaint villages.
Some of the villagers are probably glad when the winter comes and they can get back to normal life. Bourton in the Water is very busy in the summer so you're going at the right time. Bourton doesn't overdo Christmas decorations, if last year is anything to go by. I think they want to discourage the same mass invasion as they have in the summer.
Hope you all have a lovely time and find what you're looking for.
