Busy & Scenic...

by coceng

Burford lies about 20 miles west of Oxford; It is a busy town & also regarded as yet another gateway to THE COTSWOLDS !
I walked further on & more ole buildings caught my sights !
Lovely !
I want to live here I thought !
Very expensive !

"On the edge of the Cotwolds"

Burford sits in the county of Oxfordshire only 20 miles from Oxford and yet it is more akin with the towns and villages of the Cotswolds than to it's Oxfordshire neighbours.
The town is built on a hill and the buildings are made from honey coloured Cotswold stone. The town became rich as a result of wool and there are references to be found all over the town.
Today the town still exudes an air of affluence particularly in the many antique shops and upmarket clothes stores that line the high street.
With a good selection of hotels to suit every pocket, Burford makes an ideal base to explore the Cotswolds and Oxfordshire.

"Church of St John the Baptist"

A magnificent 12th century Cotswold church who's size seems to be too big for the small parish it serves. It is one of the finest churches in England though and well worth a visit if you are in the area.

"Antique shops"

If you like poking around antique shops then Burford is the place to be. There are plenty to choose from but I suspect the prices will be a bit like Burford's high street....STEEP!
