Inn For All Seasons: Former 16th century coaching inn

by leffe3

Before we left Australia, we had a debate as to the accommodation on our first night – small, intimate space with lots of character or a large hotel with less character and more facilities (all mod-cons, pool etc). We chose the former and very glad we did.

Not only was the restaurant wonderful (see separate tip), but the Inn For All Seasons fitted the 'lots of character' bill perfectly. An old 16th century coaching inn sitting aside the A40 just outside Burford (heading towards Cheltenham), we were upgraded to the 4-poster bed room (a Sunday night outside peak season, we were the only guests). A large, comfortable room with a firm bed and plenty of space (and huge bathroom), it was also devoid of those amenities you think you need (plasma screen, DVD player etc) and so was more in fitting with the character of the building.

The hotel also has lots of outdoor space – a terrace as part of the pub as well as a large garden at the back. And whilst not in use the night we were there, a conservatory adds more space for summer lunches and dinners.

Breakfast the following morning was huge and delicious - newspaper provided (ordered the night before). And everyone was incredibly friendly. Its location also meant that before dinner we went for a long walk across the fields to the local Little Barrington village (see separate tip) - perfect to blow away some of the jetlag cobwebs, having been driving since getting off the plane.

As it is an old building, note there's no lift and stairs up to the first floor is tight when carrying large suitcases.

Incredibly friendly and great food as well as a very comfortable stay.

The Tollgate Inn: Dog Friendly Accommodation

by ChrisnJan

We had a wonderful stay here, the rooms are very clean and comfortable, the staff are ever so friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. We had George (our greyhound) with us so we never sat in the restaurant, but then the bar is very clean and pleasent and never became too crowded while we were there. The food here is absolutely wonderful, the A-la-carte menu applies in the bar aswell as the restaurant and the service is the same wherever you sit.
Set in the peaceful village of Kingham this is a good location for exploring the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-wold, Bourton-on-the-water and Burford are all only a very short drive away.

We really enjoyed our stay here and now we are looking forward to visiting again and again.

Ava House Bed & Breakfast: Clean, Comfortable B & B

by Janani

I stayed at this bed and breakfast with my mum . It was easy for us to find, once she had collected me from Bicester North station, a few minutes’ drive away and its location, on a corner, made it easy to spot. The building seems to be two terraced houses joined together and has a good sized breakfast room on the ground floor, where we saw several other guests were sitting to eat takeaway food, as we arrived in the evening. There are bedrooms on the ground floor and upstairs and parking at the front.

Our room was clean and neat, decorated principally with items from Ikea. The beds were low and comfortable, with two pillows each and cushions, which made them fine to sit on too. It had a fridge, shelving unit and a good range of hot drinks available to make using the kettle provided, including tea, coffee, hot chocolate and a selection of herbal teas. Some biscuits were also provided. We thought at first that there was no bathroom available in the room, until my mum went to hang up her jacket in a cupboard built onto part of one wall and found a compact shower room, with a loo and tiny sink inside it too. Again these were spotlessly clean.

We looked in on the pub and found it nice, with a good menu but as there was live music that evening and we wanted to talk, we didn't stop.

In the morning, breakfast was served in a room looking out over the garden. From the sideboard, cereals, coffee, fruit juice, jam and bread was available and there was a toaster available, so each person could prepare their toast as they liked. My mum was tempted by the cooking smells wafting up to our room and chose to have a cooked breakfast, which she found very nice and prepared just how she had asked.

The people running the bed and breakfast were very friendly and helpful and seemed flexible about times for checking in and out. The owner also helped us with directions to the places we were planning to visit that day. They have another bed and breakfast not far away, which also looks nice.

Prospect House: Breakfast with a View

by Bwana_Brown

We enjoyed a very quiet sleep followed by a great breakfast. Your choice of fruit and yoghurt and/or a full English Breakfast.

Our hostess was very helpful regarding tips on what to do in the area. She gave us some very good advice on the nearby Broughton Castle, as well as where to look for a restaurant in town. We had the breakfast area to ourselves, and it was well situated to look out on the large back gardens typical of many English houses. I had a good time watching the magpies and other birds as I ate.

Prospect House: A Friendly B&B

by Bwana_Brown

We arrived at Banbury in good time after a wonderful day's drive through rolling countryside on our way from Milton Keynes. This was on a day that we had decided, after touring Saffron Waldon, we should make quick time to the west based on the weather reports of rain and/or snow due in a day or so! After a brief stop at a Tesco store for basic supplies, we went straight into town before heading out the Oxford Road at a round-about. We noticed a couple of B&Bs as we headed out of town so we reversed direction and stopped at the one that had looked to be the most appealing. We hit the jackpot, Prospect House B&B had three rooms for our choosing!

This B&B is owned and managed by a very enthusiastic young lady who used to teach for a living. She has only taken it over in the past few months, but it is not hard to see how much she enjoys what she is doing! A highly recommended place to stop if you are in the area! The standard rate of 45 pounds applied.

Victoria Hotel: Near town centre

It takes 10 mins walk to the town centre.

the Leather Bottle: Cute and quiet

by adinda

It's a 400-year old building which has been a pub for 360 years! Unfortunately the owners couldn't continue both pub and B&B. They have a lovely dog, mr. Johnson and the atmosphere is great. Surroundings are quiet.
