More about The Tree Hotel Oxford

A very good place to stay

by TripAdvisor Member TankCF

We stayed at the Tree to celebrate a friends 60th birthday being held in the restaurant. The menu was very extensive and the food was extremely good. The menu covered Indian Thai and English Fayre with tremendous variety in each category. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed what they sampled. We stayed overnight and whilst our room was fairly basic it was clean. The whole decor was fairly dated but we understand that the whole place is being renovated. There is no residents lounge with only the bar. However we found the locals extremely friendly and willing to talk to strangers. More of a Pub than an Hotel but this did not spoil our brief stay. Will certainly return as and when we have to stay in Oxford again. We understand from the locals that the Sunday lunch is excellent value at £10 per head for all that you can eat, with both locals and visitors alike enjoying the extensive buffet provided. The Tree is situated in a very quiet location, with a large garden to sit in and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The Manager and his staff were very attentive and helpful and could not be faulted. Possibly slightly overpriced to stay here but the standard of the food more than compensates for this

Worth a visit

by TripAdvisor Member Gerry_JourneyPlan

Stayed at the Tree Hotel 1 day per week for 6 weeks. The food was excellent and certainly one of their strong points.

They are doing work on the rooms to bring them to a higher standard which is excellent. I once got the room with a corner bath jacuzzi, although travelling on business alone, didnt fancy sitting in the jacuzzi so went down stairs and found the Bar with entertainment and freindly locals.

Would highly recomend the Tree Hotel to anyone.

Very good

by TripAdvisor Member DavidZain

We stayed at room 9 family room, 1 double bed and 1 single, very nice and spacious but most importantly CLEAN it is two stars but I will give 3, there is a car park but when we came on Sunday lunch time it was full because of the visitors of the restaurant in the Hotel it seems good although I haven't tried it my self, the car park was free afterwards.

very nice and friendly staff

We're going there again!

by TripAdvisor Member BethLA

We stayed at the Tree for a week while attending a conference in Oxford -- it was a delight to be in beautiful Iffley, and we walked the towpath route into Oxford several times (two miles along the river, the perfect walk in nice weather). The staff at the Tree were wonderful and very attentive (including assisting us very helpfully with getting ourselves online through their wireless network). The food was fabulous and our room was very comfortable -- extremely comfortable bed, very nice bathroom. There is ample parking (which is a big deal in the Oxford area!). It's easy to get to from the ring road, and from the Iffley Road out of Oxford. We've made another reservation to go back there for a long weekend when we're visiting with family in June, and we're thoroughly looking forward to going back.

Indian Food Lovers' Heaven!!

by TripAdvisor Member twygs

If you like Indian food this is the place to stay near Oxford.
Even if you don't, still stay here, the staff are outstanding, the rooms are great for a 2 star, the bar food is great and the service throughout, is superior, better than some 4 star hotels I've stayed in! In fact the staff ARE the best I encountered on my trip to the UK, staying in a number of hotels.

peace and quiet

We had a great stay here. The service and food was superb and the staff very friendly and attentive. Do not visit without taking a stroll down to the lock and perhaps walking into Oxford.

What a Great Place !

by TripAdvisor Member Bob_n_Ali

Not only can you not fault this place in terms of location, rooms, the bar etc., the people are also amazingly friendly and welcoming and the food is absolutely superb. We've never stayed anywhere where we have felt so relaxed and happy and where every thing exceeded our expectations. We were so sad to leave and have promised ourselves another visit as soon as possible. Thanks so much to every one at the Tree Hotel.

Frindly and helpful staff

by TripAdvisor Member KayDeeChelmsford

We stayed for 3 nights in May and were extremely impressed from our reception onwards. We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

The rooms, in fact the whole building, was immaculately clean and the rooms were much larger than I expected. We had a room with a king-sized bed and a corner bath. The food - well whatever we tried, English, Thai or Indian was all excellent as were those super full English breakfasts that charged us up for the day.

Before we arrived, I had just one apprehension - having Asian management and staff, would the hotel reek of curries? Amazingly the whole building, including the restaurant smelt absolutely fresh throughout our stay. How they got rid of cooking smells I don't know - perhaps they had a catalytic 'cracker' in their extractor fans.

Value for money was good and this was a far better location than in the centre of the city which we reached by bus - bus stop about 400yds away and at cost of £1.50 busses about one every 5 mins or by taxi summoned by the hotel - cost about £6.00. Don't try to take a car into the centre - traffic and high parking charges!

I highly recommend this hotel and highly commend Ashish and the other staff whose friendliness, helpfullness and humour enhanced our stay.

Just one question. Why is it only 2 star?

Good friendly service

by TripAdvisor Member greekconvert

I have stayed over the last few months quite regularly at the Tree hotel and have always found the food to be of a high standard, the staff to be courteous and helpful, The quality of rooms I have been allocated mainly by booking through laterooms.com have varied but sometimes these can be a bit basic.
I now book direct with the hotel and confirmation is received back immediately.
I will continue to use this hotel when in the oxford area and think that the price which includes full breakfast is reasonable.

Very Pleasant Weekend

by TripAdvisor Member no_can_do

My wife & I stayed in the Tree Hotel having read the other reviews below. We stayed for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed the experience! The staff are very friendly & helpful, and the food deserves every praise. We ended up eating at the hotel all three nights, as their menu is so varied.

The room we had was clean but definitely in need of renovation to bring the whole place up to the level it so deserves. Despite being directly above the main entrance to the hotel/pub we were hardly disturbed at all.

Iffley is a great place to stay, as it is a short walk along the river Thames into Oxford, but quiet and tranquil when you get back.

We shall definitely be back to stay, and with modernisation in the bedrooms this hotel could be one of the best!
