From geese to Gainsborough
by pedersdottir
Located north of the Abbey, at Pulteney Bridge, the Victoria Art Gallery is a gem.
The ground floor features changing displays of modern art (a recent exhibit featured prints from Whistler to Warhol).
The upper floor is a Victorian original, as painted by H. Q. Eversley in 1903. The long, skylit gallery feels like a private collection of prominent local painters. Admiral Sir Clowdisley Shovell, whose disastrous shipwreck on October 22, 1707 figures in the narrative of the book and film LONGITUDE, was a native. His marble bust lurks in a corner just past the coffeeshop.
The Gallery is FREE to explore, Tuesday through Sunday, although donations are gladly accepted. For additional info visit: www.victoriagal.org.uk

Best Address In Town!!
by johngayton about Paxton and Whitfield
Paxton and Whitfield are a small but prestigous cheesemongers with shops in London, Stratford-on-Avon and here in Bath. Here quality is very much the watchword and the company only deals with artisanal cheesemakers here in the UK and on the continent.
With its Royal Warrants, dating back to Queen Victoria, the shops might be thought to pander excusively to the rich but here in Bath you'll get a friendly welcome from the knowledgeable staff who'll be as happy to sort you a pre-purchase nibble when looking for something for your picnic sandwiches as they are to supply a cheeseboard for a banquet.
Yep, nice shop, great smelly atmosphere and above all a wonderful address!!! Cheese! Not the cheapest in town but definitely the best!
Driving to Bath
by Dabs
Jen's sister gave us a ride back to London from Bath, they found an inexpensive car park on the side of town that was walkable to the center, the charge was only L4 for over 6 hours. Traffic back to London on a Sunday early evening was fairly heavy, I can only imagine how horrible it is in the summer when tourism is in full gear.
Continental Perfection

The was a fine dining experience. The city is loaded with great restaurants, this is just one of many. I actually think upscale dining in England is a deal considering tip is included. In Austin, a fine meal will garner an additional $15 tip.
