Hi all,
I'm going to be driving by Bath and would probably stop by there for a short break for lunch.
What should I see and do during this sojourn of 2 hours or less?
What would be the must-see of this place and are there places of interest with free entry for students? :)
Thank you for helping me plan my trip!

Francesca
There are two places where you shouldn't miss in Bath: The Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths. They are side by side in the historic center of Bath.
Also the river with the bridges, worth a stop as Bath was designed like an Italian town, according to my History of Arts course.
Hi Francesca,
Aukaykay is right. With the time restrictions, that's all the time you'll really need. As a side note to the cathedral...notice the allegory of the ladders ascending up to heaven at each end of the facade.
Happy Travels,
Irv
The Roman Baths! The Abbey is not that impressive compared to other English cathedrals. In that case, the Royal Crescent which along with the Roman Baths is what has given Bath a World Heritage, is more worth seeing but it is further from the centre so with your limited time, the Roman Baths. They are what gave the city its name and very fascinating. A full roundtrip could be made it in an hour with time to see the highlights. I also recommend the riverside with the fantastic bridge as already mentioned.
Hi all,
thanks for the tips and suggestions! :)
It's helpful!
Have a great day!

Hi, if it's a late lunch that you can stretch- I'd recommend the free guided tour from outside the pump rooms at 1400hrs- a great way to see and learn about the city. (or you could probably arrange your own tour if you phone ahead)
Otherwise, Some things to see/ do for cheap - walk along the river, cross the Poultney Bridge, pausing to do some window shopping! Visit the Guildhall market, Visit Shakes, for scrummy milkshakes (Student discount), Peek at the Cathedral, and if You don't have time for a full viewing of the Pump rooms/Roman Baths, you can enter the Pump Room restaurant, and view a small part of the steaming baths (again for free!)( Details of the guided tour etc are on my Bath page)
I was in Bath for about 5 hours, and got to see plenty, but still can't wait to visit again to see the places I didn't have time to see.
Have A great time,
Sue.
Thanks Sue! :)
Much appreciated.
Have a great day!

Walking back to the town from a game of football in the park we spotted a mini-golf course. Of course this meant that we had to have a game. Cue lots of laughter and probably the best spent £4 of the weekend. I managed to bag second place, succeeding in not loosing to a girl - not a fate that was shared by my friend. He wasn't even close ;) At least he got a hole-in-one though.
This shop caught my eye as its such an unusual gift idea. What you do is purchase one of the many attractive bottles they have in store (even a shoe for the ladies), then select what you wish to fill it with be it oil, vinegar or liqueur. When the product has run out you can take your bottle back to the store & refill it.
Once i arrived to bath I decided to take one of the several bus tours that runs in Bath. They have audio guide in several languages ( English, Spanish, French, Japanese, German, Italian.....). There is bus stop where you can hop-on and hop-of
This vegetarian restaurant is charming, located just next to Sally Lunn's bakery on Northern Parade Passage. The variety of dishes is worth a look - I couldnýt believe I bumped into a London colleague at 3pm who had also found it appealing!

Q: Parking in Bath,Somerset "Hi all 1) Are there Park and Ride facilities in and around Bath? 2) If we want to spend the day (or best part of) in the centre..."
A: "There are indeed Park & Ride facilities and I would strongly recommend using them. Bath streets were designed for carriages not cars! Some are now pedestrianised, others..."
