Serviced Apartments in Bath (or is Bristol a better option?)

by ump001

Hi,

Am planning to visit Bath in mid April. Would like to book a serviced apartment, but they seems to work out to £100+ per night. Are there any similar alternatives a short drive away from the city?
Have google'd around but not really found much. I was thinking of booking some apartments in Bristol which seem to be a lot cheaper, is this a good option?

Can anyone recommend any apartments (not interested in B&B's), looking to spend £60 to £80 max.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The cost is high because you are looking for 'serviced apartments', which are not a cheap option in the UK (and not especially common either).

If you search for 'self-catering accommodation' you should be able to find cheaper options (I assume you mean 60-80GBP per night?). However, much depends on the length of your planned stay. Most self-catering is let for a week, but you may find some options here:

You may indeed find something cheaper in Bristol, but then you must factor in the cost of transport to/from Bath (and time it takes). Will you have a car? If so, you'll have to budget for fuel and parking costs.

Why are you not interested in b&bs or hotels? If you are planning to stay only a short time then they will probably work out cheaper and there should be a good choice available.

I really do not recommend staying in Bristol if you want to be in Bath. Transport and/or parking are also expensive! I'm afraid the price you want to pay is just silly for the area, but for self-catering options outside the city try http://www.countrycottagesonline.com/Self-catering-near-Bath.htm.

Travel Tips for Bath

A circle for a Square

by pedersdottir

If Bath is a symphony of Georgian architecture, it was composed by a trio. John Wood was the man with the plan and Robert Gay was the man with the land. Ralph Allen provided the building blocks. The BUILDING OF BATH MUSEUM explains how the men and their respective obsessions came to create this jewel box of a city in native limestone, beginning in 1725.

The adjacent Interior Gallery displays models and examples of Georgian decoration. It is a MUST SEE for anyone wishing to learn about authentic paint colors, fabric designs and wood finishes used to complete the interior architecture of Woods' elegant townhouses. Samples of period wallpapers, upholstery and trims are as nicely catalogued as any to be found in a contemporary design showroom. The ground floor shop is well stocked in books on period decoration and related topics of interest. The Countess of Huntingdon's Chapel (on the Paragon) houses the Museum's main gallery, with the Interior Gallery situated in The Old School House next door. Hours are 10:30 am to 5:00 pm, Tuesday to Sunday. Admission is L 1.50 for children, L 4.00 for adults.

Bath Sights...

I then came to a road...The 2 structures by the road side that you could see on my photo are 2 souvenir shops.
Very nice looking, just browsing through not really buying anything; British Pounds are too expensive for me to waste around...

Exploding Sheds

by greebo

Whiteway is on the outskirts of Bath and is surrounded by many fields. There is a large comprehensive school which when it was being built, a large roman graveyard was discovered. You can find many roman coins and jewellery in the surround fields but do get the farmer's permission first. You may also find the odd roman as well!!!! The area was rocked by an explosion in the fifties, the explosion destroyed a shed and blew out several windows in the surrounding houses, a family member decided as a teenager whether they could make a homemade bomb, it worked and police have never found out the cause of the explosion, hmmm and there I was thinking that this person was supposed to teach me how to be responsible!!! The things you find out about your own family!!!!

Po Na Na

This is the only busy club that I have found in Bath on a Friday night. On Fridays they have a selection of 80s/90s music playing. The club is relatively small, but the dancefloor tends to be quite full. There is quite a large bar and service is relatively quick. Lot's of places to sit. Tuesday is indie / rock night. Smart

Fantastic Indian Restaurant

by hotelzone about Jaflong

A little off pitch from the center of Bath, but take a taxi and don't miss this restaurant if your a fan of Indian food. Fantastic personal service from the staff - maybe the best service you'll receive in any Bath restaurant. I've never had a bad selection from Jaflong - and I've eaten there about a dozen times.
