More about Lavender House
Home away from home.....
Julie and I always have maintained 'When travelling within England, always use the good 'ol B&B'. That way, you get a feel of the place you are visiting.
Lavender House is a classic example of how B&B's should be run. Billie and Kevin's warm personalities, openness to conversation and willingness to help E.g. Collecting us from the Bath train station prior to check-in time, greeting us with Tea and Billie's gorgeous biscuits and multiple run-ins to the city not to mention recommendations for restaurants and tours all made for our perfect trip to Bath.
The whole B&B including our room (Room 2) was immaculately clean, beautifully decorated and had amazing views of Bath. The fantastic breakfasts in the morning overlooking their gorgeously manicured back-garden, which is huge we must add, only added to the charisma of the place. We are definitely going back there again and would highly recommend this place to anybody without a batting an eyelid.
To summarize, Lavender house exceeded our expectations on how a classic B&B should operate.
Try it out for yourselves and enjoy Bath!
Home from Home
Visiting Bath for the Easter weekend, the warm welcome I received from Billie and Kevin at Lavender House, more than made up for the wintry weather.
Just outside the city centre, Lavender House offers beautifully decorated, clean and very comfortable rooms combined with sweeping views of Bath.
Nothing was too much trouble to make me feel at home, from
home made cakes and hot chocolate when I first arrived, to a lift to the railway station when it was time to go home.
Billie and Kevin have created a real 'home from home' for their guests, with delicious cooked breakfasts and all the creature comforts including digital tv & radio. I look forward to making a return visit soon.
Truly the Best in Bath
A dream weekend from start to finish thanks to Billie, Kevin and Diane! We arrived at the Lavender House late Friday afternoon and were greeted by Billie and Diane with tea, coffee, and a tray of absolutely scrumptious cakes, cookies and breads (all freshly home-made by Billie, as is EVERYTHING you will taste at the Lavender House). After a long day of travel there was nothing more lovely than sitting in the parlor drinking tea and chatting with Billie and Diane, both of whom are an absolute wealth of knowledge about Bath specifically, but also about London, other spots in England, and many more travel destinations world wide. As we were traveling to London later on in the week and would only have a few days there, we were anxious for recommendations concerning the best places to visit, restaurants, etc. The ladies of the house had an itinerary mapped out for us within twenty minutes—and Billie even did some internet research for us and had printouts waiting at breakfast the next morning!
Our room was absolutely lovely—four-poster bed and beautiful antiques, all organized around a “rose” theme for that particular room, gorgeous, spacious bathroom, and all the amenities you would expect from a nice hotel, fluffy robes and lovely creams, shampoos, etc. Billie knows how to pamper her guests—the hospitality tray featured a huge range of teas, hot chocolate, bottled water, along with cookies and a chocolate box, and even some wine for those wanting a nightcap before bed (we did, and it was delicious!) If this wasn’t enough, there was a large basket of chocolate and candy in the hall outside the room, and everything was refilled daily so that we were never without a sweet treat.
We had an extremely restful sleep and the next morning we were treated to a truly fantastic breakfast in a beautiful dining room looking out at an impressive garden. The meal had it all: cereals, fruits, breads (with actual crumpets!), juices, and then made-to-order choices ranging from full English to pancakes. Again, the details and home-made touches really took the whole experience over the top, from the beautiful china settings to homemade jams and marmalades. Such a wonderful way to start the day!
The most unique and wonderful aspect of the Lavender House is unquestionably the people who inhabit it: Billie, her husband Kevin, and the proprietor Diane. They are simply kind, good people who treat the guests at their hotel like valued friends, and they are ever-anxious to make things as pleasant, comfortable and convenient as possible. They drove us in to town and the train station several times, dropping us off at restaurants and the like, In casual conversation I mentioned to Billie that I was especially fond of scones, and so naturally when we returned from a day-trip in the rain to Stonehenge, she had a huge tray of sweet and savory scones and tea she had whipped up just for us, simply because she knew I’d enjoy them. It was like visiting a favorite relative. When they dropped us off at the train station the next morning, we were truly sad to be leaving them. Can't wait to go back!
Lavender House was a wonderful surprise, the house is set in a beautiful little garden, the decor is lovely with many special touches, everything is very tasteful and comfortable. And this is all due to two of the most gracious hosts you will ever meet, Kevin and Billy. They trully could not do enough to make us comfortable. Billy cooks a beautiful breakfast, and they both make a great cup of tea, served in gorgeous big cups. Highly recommended.
A Perfect Weekend
Just back from a perfect weekend at Lavender House. Billie and Kevin are truly unique - nothing too much trouble. The house is elegant, immaculate and so welcoming - and as for Billie's cooking........! Take my advice and don't bother with expensive, second-class meals in the town - spoil yourself with dinner at Lavender House.
Spring has arrived in the lovely garden and the views over the City of Bath at night were magical. I will definitely be returning!
We just wanted to say a big thank you to Bille, Kevin and diana for not only their warm welcome but the extra mile they went during our weekend at Lavender House.
Nothing was too much trouble ad they really put themselves out to make us feel at home.
Our room was spotless, beautifully decorated (The garden room)
with lots of little extra's like chocolates and biscuits.
I have a gluten allergy so it was wonderful at breakfast to see Gluten free cereals, gluten free toast provided.
Breakfast itself was hearty, well presented and while fully traditional, no greasy after taste.
Eveything was just perfect, so again, thank you very much.
Thanks for the great hospitality!
I just came back from my trip to England, and I’d like to say if you are planning to visit Bath, you should stay in this lovely B&B.
Everything was perfect for my trip plan: reasonable price, pick-up service from the near by station (Bath Spa) and clean and cozy room with tons of high-end amenities!
I also needed to mention about their breakfast! You have variety of menus to choose from (which I had a hard time to pick, since everything was good!). They prepare hot meals for you too (I loved English beacon! It was quite tasty;).
On top of the, the owner couple was such a lovely people. You’ll be treated so well, like you are in your own home… I highly recommend Lavender House:)
A warm welcome and a great place to stay
If you want a really friendly place to stay in Bath then Lavender House is the best. Billy and Kevin are great hosts. Breakfasts are fantastic - you don't need to eat for the rest of the day but of course, you do!
Ask for a room on the front as the views are fantastic. Look out over The Cresent or watch hot air balloons floating down the valley if you are as lucky as us.
If you are stuck for something to do just ask Billy. She has some great ideas.
My wife, adult daughter, and myself stayed at the Lavender House for two nights (May 1 and 2). The house is a 15-20 minute walk (downhill) to the center of Bath. The rooms are very comfortable with ensuite bathroom. Our room, which had a double and single bed, overlooked a pretty garden, while, the other, which has a double bed, has nice view of Bath. Billie and Kevin are very gregarious and make you feel at home almost instantly. When we arrived, we were immediately served coffee and brownies. Later that evening, Kevin drove us into town so we could get dinner. We returned by cab (around 5 GBP). For breakfast, Billie makes a delicious full English breakfast, or several variations (e.g., poached eggs on toast) of one. While the Lavender House is located in a very nice neighborhood, it is somewhat removed from the center of Bath. However, the willingness of Kevin to provide a lift mitigates this issue. All in all, the Lavender House provides a perfect English B&B experience.
We stayed at Lavender House for two nights over a bank holiday weekend. From the outset, the owners were the warmest and most welcoming hosts we could have wished for. Nothing was too much trouble. Although the guest house is not far from the centre of the city, we were offered lifts there in the mornings and given recommendations for places to visit/eat in the area.
The house itself is beautifully decorated, clean and well-kept with a particularly pretty dining room where a wide choice of fresh breakfast food is served. It also had some marvellous views of the city. It was a long time since any of us had stayed in a B&B and we were really struck by what a difference it made to our trip to have warmth and pleasantness in this sort of setting, rather than the inevitably impersonal feel of a hotel.
We can't recommend Lavender House highly enough.
