Four star hotel, bang smack in the Centre of Taunton. Used by celebs when they come to Taunton, and with fine cuisine in the restaurant. Not the cheapest mind, but worth it. Gary Rhodes used to be the chef here, and the Sunday lunch menus are among the best in the town. There is also a restaurant for non-residents called Brazz - which has a separate website at www.brazz.co.uk. There is a secure car park to the back of the building. Historically it dates from the 12th century and was where the Duke of Monmouth and his men mustered prior to their defeat by James II.
The ivy clad building has a certain fairytale feel to it. There are five suites and a penthouse suite and 44 rooms - so it is not big by any standard.
