Weston-Super Mare ~ Can-u-see-the-Sea-side
Seaside resort on the coast of the Bristol Channel, Weston has seen better days. Paddle steamers still come here from South Wales, you can see Cardiff from here. When the tide is out, you can also almost see the sea as well, no thanks to the massive 13 metre tidal range!
My visit was made somewhat different by a motorcycle racing event on the beach, which made it sound like World War Three was breaking out.
Weston is close to the M5 motorway and has a mainline railway station too. Apart from the long Pier, beach and Winter Gardens Theatre, the area is also known for being a UK helicopter manufacturing centre. There is a Helicopter Museum on the outskirts of the town, if you fancy looking at some large choppers ;-)

"Pier Pyre!!"
On Monday 28th July Weston-Super-Mare Pier went up in flames and the pavilion at the far end was completely destroyed! This is particularly unfortunate for the new owners who had only just refurbished the attraction, adding amongst other things a go-kart rink.
The only good news is that the remaining parts were reopened to tourists after only three days, so at least you can enjoy a long walk.
