Doncaster Holiday Inn
I think this hotel usted to be the Moat House, but it is definitely the Holiday Inn now.
The location is ideal if you are looking for somewhere half way up the country on the A1, as the hotel is just 50m from Junction 36 at the main Doncaster exit.
The room was big and had al the usual stuff: bed, TV, kettle (with a vast number of sachets of decaffinated coffee) and had floor-to-ceiling windows. The shower, however, was quite pathetic: I was on the second floor yet the water pressure was lousy. I had to stand almost pressed up against the wall to catch the dribble. The room was quiet, spacious and comfortable.
The bar was typical suburban hotel: nothing to write home about.
Unique Quality: The building is one of those angular 1960s/1970s brick and glass building that looks like every secondary school across the country, and one of the biggest advantages of staying there is that you don't have to look at it. The buildings alongside - that include the health club - are fairly old and are handsome, especially in the late afternoon sun.
This is a quiet hotel that probably only gets crowded when there is a wedding - and I bet that happens a lot in the summer!
An added bonus is that visiting football teams all stay here when they are playing Doncaster Rovers. Millwall stayed the night I was there. They seemed a bit irritated that I didn't want their autographs in the bar. Errrrr. Hello?! You're a League 1 player, get real. Even I earn more than you.
