You cannot take a train but you can take a tram - take a Middlewood bound tram and get off at Hillsborough Park - about 15 minutes from any stop in the city centre. You buy tickets from a conductor on the tram.
Have a look at http://www.supertram.com/journeyplanner.html
From the tram stop its just a few minutes walk to your bed and breakfast.

Any Middlewood or Malin Bridge tram stops at the Hillsborough interchange. Penistone Road is just below you.

Travel Tips for Sheffield

You absolutely must...COME...

by Bananz

You absolutely must...COME HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! Sheffield's the kind of place that is often overlooked by tourists (even British ones). Maybe it's because people still think of the city being the way it was in the bleak days of the steel industry collapse. But like a phoenix from the ashes Sheffield has been re-born and is well on its way to becoming the Jewel of the North. This place is changing so quickly, and from a visitor's point of view it's all for the better. Forget about Leeds, forget about Manchester, forget about London even (!) for SHEFFIELD is the city of the future!!!!!

English in the street is...

by Betul

English in the street is different from the english I learnt from courses in Turkey, totally different accent. It took me some months to understand the local people. I can say that they speak something new to me. They call it SouthYorkshire English.
Some words also mean something different from American English.
When they say 'Haya' it means 'Hi'. Always say 'Thank you' and 'please' otherwise they may be angry with you. It is not a kindness, it is the way everybody speak in their normal life. Honey and sweet is also very common.
To be honest, I dont use the word 'please' all the time in my life in Turkey, was strange to me at first, but liked it afterwards.

Sheffield Wednesday Football Club

by Arm-Chair-Hero

Goes through me having to put this on here but I am a fair guy.
Sheffield Wednesday is one of the oldest teams in England. They have had bit of a bad season in 2002/3 and been relegated ; )
I am sure they will bounce back and Sheffield will have two mighty teams again.
One thing in Wednesdays favour is that the ground is quite nice and they do have quite a few loyal fans that have been with them in the worst of times.
Wednesdays nickname is the owls....you can see the picture of an owl in my photo.
Is it by chance that there is lots of rubbish in my photo?.....oh come on folks I mean the bins of course ; ) Warm clothes for winter matches....football grounds tend to be drafty.
A sense of humour when watching the game.
Forget the car on match days...use the tram or bus.

Sharrowvale Road Shopping

by TimMiles

There are lots of little independent shops on Sharrowvale Road. The picture is the window display of a shop called the front parlour, selling all sorts of artefacts and curios from times past. It is only open Wednesday and Saturday, the rest of the time the staff are out sourcing new items!
