Have to make an emergency visit to Hanley next Tuesday, can anyone suggest cheap accommodation in city centre or nearby for one or two nights doesn't have to be fancy even a pub room, haven't been to Hanley before - are there any hostels or backpackers desperate situation

Re: accommodation

by leics

This Hanley isn't a city. It is a former settlement which is now part of Stoke-on-Trent. It's about a mile and a half from Stoke itself.

I cannot find any hostels other than one or two a long way out in the countryside. This is not a tourist-popular area and accommodation is very limited.

Have a look at the tourist info site for Stoke:

I foudn this b&b:

is in Hanley 'city centre' (it really is *not* a city!) and charges 26GBP per night without breakfast, £30 with breakfast: a very reasonable rate for UK b&b.

Travel Tips for Stoke-upon-Trent

by M.E.R.V

While the rest of the world is using other animals like puppy, cock, tiger or pig to show affection or hatred to someone, here in Staffordshire, we use ''duck''. Firstly the word “duck” (a term of greeting, for man or woman) has nothing at all to do with the winged bird of the same name! I have absolutely no idea how it came about, nor do my mates. However, it's been long used in the Potteries so don't feel strange if someone calls you a duck, it's just a humble way fo expressing someone's friendliness.

Knypersley Valley

by M.E.R.V

The English countryside is certainly stunning in every aspect despite the horrible weather. Knypersley Valley is a picturesque 40 acre reservoir located in Greenway Bank Country Park. It takes about 15-20 minutes to walk around it quickly although of course I'm sure taking a long stroll would be just perfect for the setting. My baby Letti absolutely loves it here, especially chasing the ducks and geese. For those who like the witching hours, come about an hour just before it gets dark, the serenity turns into fear as the entire place goes completely pitch black as there are no lights to guide you. Saying that, I hope you don't get lost in the woods.

"A Weekend Away"

The reason this area was chosen as the venue for a girls' weekend away, was its location: exactly in the middle of all our addresses. My friend's sister organised everything and did all the cooking too. Although I know she enjoys this, it was lovely of her to do it. She chose the perfect place and the food she made was just as good!
