Great River Views

A spankingly new Hilton built right on the River Tyne, the backdrop to the reception through the panoramic windows is as good as you could expect with full up close view of the Tyne Bridge.

Located on the Gateshead side of the River Tyne, meaning a 10 minute walk into the City Centre, across your choice of 3 bridges.

Clean, crisp decor in the modern rooms, with classy bathrooms(liked the glass bowl sinks).

Top Notch buffet breakfast in the chic dining room.

Parking available underneath the hotel at a cost of £8.00 per 24 hours.

Unique Quality: City Views, Funky Decor, bright and Airy.

The Hilton sits on opposite side of the Tyne is virtually facing the Premier travel inn. The price starts from around £135.00 per room per night and include breakfast, although if you book in advance and can be flexible on your dates you can get a room for less.

Hilton Gateshead Brilliant middle age cork

by TripAdvisor Member SAMSCROSS

i stayed in hilton gateshead last weekend of april and found it to be one of the best hotels in england. The staff were most friendly and helpful. The dinner and breakfast were brilliant and especially Catherine in dining room for the warm welcome she gave us. The bar staff were also great and we even got a sample song from one of them. I would recommend this hotel to anybody and also the area, especially as there is a direct flight from Cork.
MIDDLE AGE COUPLE CORK

poor reception

by TripAdvisor Member EJH20

Lovely hotel all new, however on check-in I had requested a double bed + a single bed ie family room - recieved double bed + chair bed just not suitable for mother who has arthritis - on going to reception it was like hitting a blank wall they did not comprehend the concept of a family room, eventually got it sorted after much fuss.Breakfast each morning was also a bit of a trial not enough food prepared and distinct lack of staff, overall for a new very expensive hotel I was not impressed.

Bad Service

by TripAdvisor Member Julia Martin

My fiance and myself stayed at this hotel from 7-9th March. We were initially very impressed with look of the hotel - very nice rooms, nice lobby etc but we were very let down by the bad service. Firstly, during our meal in the restaurant, the waiter swore while trying to open a bottle of wine. The next morning at breakfast, there was no milk for tea or coffee and when the fruit juice ran out, nobody re-filled them for at least 20 minutes. That day we asked reception the best way to get to the Metrocentre - the answer we got was 'I've no idea'. Surely it is their job to find out if they don't know. The best she could come up with was 'you'd be better off getting a taxi'. Useless.

This hotel is 4 star and is not cheap - we expected much more. The bar prices are really expensive too - £6 for a large glass of wine. You can buy a bottle for less in some of the bars nearby !

Hilton really should get the service issues sorted as it is spoiling an otherwise very good hotel.

A return stay - great hotel, but food still pricey for the quality

by A TripAdvisor Member

We returned here and as we stay on the fifth floor (executive level) we had the fantastic lounge facility and a room with a balcony and river view. The lounge (thanks to Jeanette) is a great bonus, and one of the reasons we will continue to use this hotel. It is much quieter and refined than the bar/ restaurant downstairs.
The downsides are fairly minor: 1) Over priced food of pub/ school dinner quality 2)I didn't appreciate that the no smoking section in the bar is down wind of the smoking section - not great planning.
If the quality of the food could be improved, this would be a top hotel.

Disgusting state of rrom

by TripAdvisor Member sheffield_neil

Booked two twin rooms and got one double bed in each and a childs camp bed as the other (very unconfortable).

I had picked your hotel due to the fact that you had 4 stars and I wanted some clients we were entertaining to have a bit of luxury.

I found one of the rooms to be in a disgusting state. There was a horrible stain in the carpet that looked like a fresh sick stain that wasn’t properly cleaned (see attached photo’s). I went down to reception to point this out and they said they would take a note of it, but did nothing else about it.

brilliant weekend

by A TripAdvisor Member

We were down in Newcastle for Alan Shearer's testimonial and decided to stay at this hotel for a couple of nights. We managed to get quite a good deal where we had dinner, bed and breakfast the first night, then bed and breakfast the second.
The hotel is in a good situation, just across the tyne, about a 10/15 minute walk from central station.
We found staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms were a very good size and very clean and tidy. They had everything we needed for the weekend.
The food was fantastic, we had a three course dinner which had loads to choose from and was of a very high standard. Breakfast was good as ever - cooked breakfast or continenal.
The facilities, although the pool was a little small, were just what we needed and were also very clean.
Will definitely be back again.

Poor Quality Rooms No Better than Travel Lodge!

by A TripAdvisor Member

For our first ever visit to Newcastle my husband and I decided to treat ourselves and stay at the Hilton. We booked an Executive Room which at the time of booking were told that we would have views of the Tyne Bridge and a balcony. What we actually got when we booked in was an average room minus the balcony and the only bridge we could see was the railway bridge! (We were told that these rooms were first come first served, something that is not mentioned on the Hilton website. We did also book in at 1:30pm instead of the usual 3:00pm so surely we would have fallen into the first come first served bracket). After complaining to Reception we were however moved to a room with a view which still had no balcony but did have the added bonus of a large staining to the carpet which wasn't very attractive - thank goodness for the slippers!

On a positive note Newcastle is an excellent place to visit with loads of fantastic nightlife and very friendly locals and we will certainly return for that reason unfortunately not back to the Hilton.

If you book an Executive Room because of the view and the balcony check and double check that that is what you will get.

Great hotel, Great location!

by TripAdvisor Member james11111

We stayed here on a works do for a weekend and I have to say I was impressed. The hotel itself is pleasant enough and very clean. What made it for me though was the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff I dealt without exception. The room was a good size (we weren't able to get a river view room unfortunately) and was clean and tidy, breakfast was more than acceptable. A good location near to the quayside were there are plenty of bars and restaurants to keep you occupied by night and a great river to walk along to keep you occupied by day!
