More about Premier Inn Newcastle - City Centre

Tyne & Weat Metro (M)

by TheGaz1982

The Tyne & Wear Metro covers most area's in Tyneside (Newcastle/Gateshead) and Wearside (Suderland). It is very handy for travelling around Newcastle city centre, and is easily accesible. Just look out for a yellow sign with a "M" on it.

Grainger Street Market

by barryg23

The Grainger St indoor shopping market has been going since 19th century and is open every day except Sunday. It’s a nice contrast to all the high street style shops in Newcastle City Centre.

Grainger Market

by steventilly

Grainger Market (Awaiting picture) is a fruit and veg market openend in 1838 (much of Newcastle city centre dates from this period). It was the home of a Marks & Spencer penny bazzare (this is how M&S started out) and to this day the bazarre remains, as a reminder of the company's humble origins. The market now is not just fruit and veg, but all manner of things and the sights and smells as you walk down it's galleries are a joy (unless you're vegetarian :=(( ).

Biggest running event in the U.K

by sourbugger

The Great North run is an annual half-marathon that is run every year towards the end of September.

It is by far the largest running event in the UK, with nearly 50,00 odd (some very odd) completing the 13.1 mile course from just noth of Newcastle city Centre, across the Tyne Bridge (a great moment) and along the south side of the Tyne to the seaside at South Sheilds.

The atmosphere is terrific, and further enhanced by the large number of charity runners in exceptionally silly costumes.

I have run it a number of time, and usually start witha collection of giant Rhinos from Billericay.

If you are a runner, then don't expect a great time, the mass start is very slow for a mile or two - but do expect a truely great day out.

Newcastle Airport

From Newcastle Central in the City Centre the Metro then takes you directly to the airport in 23 minutes. The Metro also links Gateshead, South Tyneside, the coast and North Tyneside to the airport.

Getting There By Bus
Numbers 76, 76A, 77, 77A, 78, 78E, and 79 bus run to and from Newcastle City Centre (Eldon Square Bus Concourse) to the Airport entrance approximately every 20 minutes during the day and less frequently during the evening Monday - Saturday and all day Sunday. New year in Geordieland

by Rosstipha

Hello

Coming over from the Wirral for New Years Eve. (2 couples age 27-30)
Whats the score in Newcastle is it just pubs and clubs or do you have anything going on down the quayside?
If its the pubs and clubs thing would we need to book tickets or anything?

Were stopping New years day aswell so a nice restaurant recomendation would be good too.

Also anything worth visiting when were there... I've only ever been to Newcastle once before we only seen the inside of St James and a cracking chinese restaurant in the quayside.

Thanks

Ross

The pubs will be open as usual, you can take your pick from the Gate, the Bigg Market or the Quayside. All these areas are alive with bars, clubs and restaurants with a huge choice. The clubs will probably be ticket only, i know TigerTiger are having a James Bond Theme night, check out these web sites

Not sure about restaurants for New Years Day but the restaurants on Stowell street, which is "China Town", will definitely open
Try http://www.newcastlegateshead.com may be useful for general info
