Where to go?
by Josiegirl
There is a group of us travelling up to Newcastle in 3 weeks for a girl's night out, we are staying in a guest house in Jesmond and just wandered if there was any where that you could recommend to us?

If you like things a bit more upmarket check out Osborne Road in Jesmond itself.
If you want to see Newcastle in all its hideous technicolour then you'll want to head for the Bigg Market in the centre of town.
The Quayside are is kind of in between. Some cool "designer bars" to head for are Apartment on Collingwood Street, Popolo on Pilgrim Street (just down from the Fire Station and on the right hand side), Coco V near the central station...let me kow if you wnat to know more.....

Hi,
Thanks for the tips, we're travelling up next Saturday lunch time and are aiming to land late afternoon so can you recommend any where for us to grab a decent bite to eat?
Thanks
Josie :)
Travel Tips for Newcastle upon Tyne
Belsay Hall
by stevezero
The hall was designed by the legendary Newcastle architect, John Dobson, and is exactly 100ft (30m) square. Its present unfurnished state gives even greater emphasis to its bold architecture which is now regularly used to display contemporary artworks.
Today Belsay Hall is still being restored by English Heritage and more and more rooms are being opened to the public.
It is intended that the hall will always be shown unfurnished, but it is still very impressive in its current state.
Admission Charge
Adults - £5.50 for hall, castle and grounds
In Belsay, 20kms NW of Newcastle on A696 (OS Map 88; ref NZ 088785)
The Millennium Bridge
by steventilly
Stricly speaking it's Gateshead's bridge (that's the town on the other bank - they paid for it!). Basically it links the two quaysides, and Gateshead is also building an arts centre into the old and histioric Baltic Mill just across the bridge.
The bridge is for pedestrians and cyclists and has a unique and interesting feature: When ships need to pass under it, it rotates by 45 degrees to lift the walkway into the air to give clearance for the boats. Because of this it is said to resemble a 'blinking eye' and is affectinately known as 'the blinking bridge'.

Angel of the North
by barryg23
The Angel of the North is a well known landmark in Gateshead just off the A167 road between Newcastle and Durham. Designed by English architect Antony Gormley, it was built in 1998 and is over 20 metres high and 54 metres wide (about the same width as the wings on a Jumbo Jet).
We passed it 4 times during our visit to Newcastle but we didn’t have a chance to stop. Our best view of it was on the 709 bus from Newcastle to the Beamish Museum and incidentally, this bus, which you can catch from Eldon Shopping Centre in Newcastle, does stop nearby. We also caught a quick glance of it as we passed by very quickly on the train.
Covered market, stationed here
by sourbugger about Tynemouth Market
Every Saturday morning (until about 3PM)
Tynemouth station is transformed by the Market that nestles in this wonderfully restored Victorian station.
Stalls range from toys to bric-a-brac, antiques, jewelery, food, cd's and what-not. There is also a stallholder who sells very high quality 'realistic' dolls that retail for up to a thousand pounds or so.
There is also a farmers market once a month at the same location.
Entry is free - just step off the train.
P.S the website listed gives a good view of the market in action We found it to be excellent value. Some stall wil negotaite (especially for larger items) whilst others have a fixed-price policy.
