More about Adelphi Guest House Stratford-upon-Avon

Lovely, friendly people in a great location...

We can only agree with everyone else's good reviews of the Adelphi. We wanted nice, clean accommodation as we had cousins over from Australia and wanted to make their trip to Warwickshire memorable. I booked The Adelphi after doing a lot of research (mainly by reading the reviews on here - thank you). I emailed the Adelphi and they replied within a few hours offering us a room with a 4-poster and a family room. I booked them and asked that our cousin and his wife had the 4 poster as a surprise (it's their 25th wedding anniversary while they are here and this weekend away was our gift to them)
When we arrived we were met by Martin & Ellen, the owners, and were shown to our rooms - Ellen remembered my request and the Aussies were thrilled when they saw they had a 4 poster. Both rooms were a decent size and ours had a double bed (very comfy) and a single bed. The sheets were lovely and soft (Egyptian cotton?) and the beds were covered with satin covers. There was also a hospitality tray with enough tea and coffee for a few cups, plus biscuits. Both had en-suite shower / toilet with clean white towels, shampoo and soap. All the furniture and pictures are in keeping with the area (old oak., Shakespeare's plays etc.) .
Ellen popped up with a welcoming sherry and a chocolate truffle each which was a really lovely touch and a first for us despite staying in quite a few B&B's. She was also on hand for advice on where to go in the town.
You are given a menu from which you select your requirements for breakfast the next day ranging from Full English to salmon with scambled eggs, kippers and so on.
Although our room was at the front if we kept the windows closed and couldn't hear the traffic. We were literally only a few minutes walk away from the centre but it was surprisingly quiet so it's in an excellent location and it's only a few miles away from Warwick Castle too.
We would definitely stay at the Adelphi again and recommend you consider it too if you are looking for somewhere close to the centre, clean, comfortable and friendly.

The Adelphi deserves its No. 1 recommendation on TA

The Adelphi is the loveliest B and B we have stayed in during our UK trip and thank you to all the people who praised it here on Trip Advisor as that and the location are the reasons we booked it. The owners are lovely and couldn't be more helpful. The house is full of beautiful furniture, prints and paintings and lovely knick knacks that made it a pleasure to stay. While the rooms were compact, they were very comfortable with plenty of storage space. It also has wi fi which was a bonus. The breakfasts were fantastic with an excellent range of options. The Adelphi is very central to everything with free parking. I couldn't praise it highly enough.

Perfect place for a break

Beautifully clean and very comfortable. Wonderful hospitality and family friendly too. You will struggle to find a guest house with better breakfasts. All within the easiest stroll into the centre of Stratford-upon- Avon and everything that has to offer. We will certainly stay again. Familly Nicholls.

Friendly and Comfortable

We had a lovely stay at this well-located guest house. The Harveys were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice ( the poached eggs are highly recommended). The hotel is well situated within a 10 minute walk of the train station, shops and theatres. We would stay here again should we come back to Stratford-upon-Avon.

Loved Adelphi

I stayed at Adelphi guesthouse last week and enjoyed a lovely stay there. The rooms were gorgeous, the owners friendly, food delicious and overall I felt very comfortable and at ease. I would definately go back and recommend this property to anyone else thinking of staying in Stratford-upon-Avon!

Adelphi - very clean, comfortable, and friendly

by TripAdvisor Member Michael3550

The rooms at Adelphi and very comfortable and clean, breakfast is superb, and the owners very warm and welcoming people. It is within 5 to 10 minutes walk from the town and theatres, and makes for a very pleasant stay. Top notch!

Absolutely fantastic!

From the moment we walked in, Martin and Ellen Harvey proved to be ideal hosts in the best B & B we stayed in during our two-week vacation in England. Weather was quite cold the night we arrived. Martin took stock of our semi-frozen state and brought in a warming glass of most-excellent sherry within moments of our arrival. We definitely had made the right choice for lodging during our three days in Stratford-Upon-Avon!

The cozy room was nicely furnished and clean. Tea, coffee, and biscuit supplies were generous.

I could go on and on about the breakfasts . . . we stayed at five different B & Bs during our journey through England and Ellen's breakfasts were five-star. She offered a variety of choices. Our favorites were the smoked salmon with scrambled eggs (fluffy mound of eggs covered with thinly sliced smoked salmon--beautiful presentation matched by the wonderful blend of smokey and fresh flavors) and the poached haddock (done just right in a light cream sauce and also beautifully presented).

Martin and Ellen are ideal and gracious hosts. The next time we visit Stratford-Upon-Avon, we will definitely stay at Adelphi House again.

Disappointed.

A very disappointing stay at the Adelphi. Cold disinterested welcome. No parking available. We were't shown to our room. Our room was small and dark with the only window at the side and looking out onto the wall of the next property. Bathroom dusty and bathroom shelves not cleaned properly since last occupants. Bathroom in need of complete overhaul. Pretty furnishings and pictures but standard of upkeep of decor poor. Double bed squeezed in so one side totally up against the wall. Hospitality tray poor, 1 small pack of biscuits, last occupants water still in kettle, out of date UHT milk ,no choice of teas or coffees. Shower wailed like a banshee and was unbearable ( see video ). Multiple choice breakfast card was inpersonal and also dictated too much what you could choose together. i.e yoghurt OR fruit -together was not an option. Breakfast service inpersonal and cold - no 'good morning' to any of the guests in the dining room. Dining room was pretty. Good quality eggs but other ingredients let it down, highly processed cheap MRM sausage ( no excuse for this when making such a point of the high quality of their breakfasts on their website) and cheap hard tasteless tomatoes. Breakfast seating arrangement poor as my husband had to sit facing the wall. All in all it felt that because we were only staying for one night they felt they didn't need to put any effort in. There are plenty of B&Bs in Stratford and I would never stay here again. Very unenjoyable stay.
