Conference centre
by AtomicPuppy68 about Ettington Chase 4*
Set in enormous, well-kept grounds, this hotel is actually a conference centre as well. It therefore lacks a little character, but is clean, friendly and has a swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi, as well as a therapy centre for massage etc. It is 5 minutes walk from the village of Ettington, where there are 2 nice traditional pubs, serving good food...one is Chequers and one is the White Lion.
Comfortable beds, clean, overly powered shower which kind of sand-blasts you clean, TV, tea and coffee making facilities (ie kettle and cups and spoons!).
Very nice buffet style breakfast.
Cost me £60 per night for a double room in Sept 2005. Beautiful grounds, swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi.
Good Hotel

We were in the Ettington Chase Hotel last week for a two night stay.
The hotel is nice with friendly staff, though it could be more geared to the tourist trade. The Breakfast was buffet style and was very good, though it ended early at 9am which again I think is geared more for those attending a confrence. We would have preferred to have a leisurly late breakfast as we wanted to chill out for the couple of days we were there. Overall though I would recommend this Hotel as it is close to Stratford. I would also recommend "The Chequers" in the village (which is less than 5 minute walk from hotel) for Dinner in the evening. We dined there both nights because the standard of the meals were very high. We didn't need to book either nights but think it would probably be best to do so,as we nearly didn't get a table on the second night. We also went to the White Horse for a drink but didn't like the look of the place for a meal as the dining area looked very basic, but that of course doesn't mean the meals weren't lovely. We prefer to dine in nice surroundings and the Chequers was ideal as it looked nice and the food was absolutly delicious!
good for a weekend break

We stayed at the Ettington Chase hotel for a Saturday night in April and would recommend the hotel for a weekend break. It is a massive conference centre with modern hotel rooms. The leisure facilities are good and the food at breakfast was great- buffet style with lots of choice. We found all the staff to be very friendly and welcoming.
We didnt eat in the hotel in the evening- we tried to go to the Chequers Inn in Ettington village but it was fully booked so we went up the road to the White horse pub which serves traditional pub food. On the sunday, we went to Chequers for Sunday lunch and it was fantastic. Though very different from each other, both pubs had great food and excellent service. I would wholeheartedly recommend the Chequers Inn- its a real find!
Most Enjoyable and Relaxing

I booked the Ettington Chase as a last minute get away for the weekend and I must say that although the Chase is predominatley a conference centre it does have excellent facilities for those wanting a quiet weekend away.
The rooms are very comfortable.
The facilities include a Pool ,Gym , sauna etc for those who ant to be more energetic ,a lobby type bar which does'nt have any real atmosphere but is ok for a quick early evening drink.
The main shortcoming is that on Friday and Saturday evening there is no restaraunt service available. We had to go into the Village which is only 5 mins walkto use the public houses. There are two the Chequers and The White Horse. Of the two I can highly recommend the White Horse. A great hide away which did excellent meals at a very reasonable cost and has a great bar for afterwards.
A hidden gem.
We used the Chase as a base to tour Stratford on Saturday and warwick on the Sunday.
For a weekend away - highly recommended. If you do go remember to book a table at the White Horse for food.
Great find for a weekend break

We chose Ettington Chase for its proximity to Stratford as a base for exploring the area for a weekend. The large hotel has recently been refurbished to a high standard and had all the facilities you would expect from a conference facility.
At the weekend the hotel’s public areas do feel empty as it is of course used to holding much larger numbers during the week, but as there was a group of us and we were out exploring during the days anyhow this was of little concern to us.
At the weekend (including Friday night) the Hotel's restaurant does not open for dinner, although the bar area does serve a selection of food. Instead we ventured into the village and ate both nights at the newly refurbished Chequers pub, which offers a good range of food. I would recommend pre-booking as it was very busy on both nights.
Our only minor complaint was that on the Saturday night there had been a private event run at the hotel – for which the staff had allowed the attendees to book tables at breakfast the following day. However, as the other hotel residents had not been advised that a booking for breakfast was required several people were unhappy that they could not sit at the table or in the groups that they wished to.
The hotel staff were polite and helpful and overall our stay was very enjoyable. At a cost of around £80 per room per night including breakfast – this 4 star hotel was good value.
A Decent Conference Experience

I was here on business, as a conference facility it was fine, not too sure I would have liked it for a holiday break. The public areas are spacious, lots of natural daylight and plenty of seats. There is a courtyard in the middle providing smoking facilities. During a conference the public areas are kept fully stocked with complimentary tea, coffee, water, fruit juice, diet coke, nuts, fruit - a whole host of goodies which was excellent. The pool was pleasant, functional rather than spa like. Rooms were modern and had all you need for a busines trip, nothing too glamorous. Breakfast was average with the usual basics but I found the food at lunch and in the evening to be bland. Overall good conference facility, I would return for this purpose rather than for a holiday.
Nightmare

I booked this hotel as a weekend getaway. As it was a a treat for my partner, I booked one of the suites that came with all the luxuries. When we arrived we booked in and went off to our allocated room which turned out to be a double room. I returned to the front desk and was informed that they had no booking on their system for us. They offered me a bottle of red wine as compensation. They tried to insist that we must have booked the room through another website and it was only when they saw that the email confirmation was from the hotel itself that they took me seriously. I was not happy with the wine offer and in the end they offered us the double room for £40 plus a bootle of wine as they had no suites available. We had similar problems in the morning when we went for breakfast as they had no table for us. The remote control for the TV didn't work and neither did the safe.
The hotel itself is ok, it is a conference hotel but it offers great discounts at the weekend. The swimming pool is nice although a bit too small to swim in properly. They have a sauna, but beware this is a mixed sauna that is through a door in the changing room. On opening the door to the sauna area everyone can see straight into the changing room, which isn't so good when your getting changed and there are people looking in!
The hotel is situated a short drive from Stratford but there's a couple of pubs in walking distance. The restaurant isn't open at weekends.
I think the compensation they offered was fair but it was the small things that let the hotel down.

I'm currently staying at this hotel often (2-3 times a month) and it's excellent with friendly staff, nice modern rooms with comfortable beds and everything you will need.
Good restaurant with a varied set price menu and a very good breakfast buffet.
The gym, sauna, swimming pool / jacuzzi are a bonus and included in the rate.
I have never used the conference facilities but they all look first class.
Bear in mind....
In the village of Ettington, a short walk away, there are two Pubs, If you want more than this, Banbury is 15 miles drive away.

saw good reviews on this website so decided to give it a go. The location is ideal for trips to Stratford on Avon, and Warwick Castle. Buy your ticket for Warwick Castle from the tourist info. in Stratford and save £4.00 each on the entry fee.
The village is smart and we would recommend the Chequers Inn as a good restaurant rather then the pub based meals of the White Horse who dont serve food on Mondays.
The Hotel itself is definitely run mainly for conferences and whilst it is good value and friendly the service in the restautant was a shambles. The staff received no directions we were left standing in the door way for 10mins, ordered coffee for 2 and received one tea and one coffee, the food had gone by 8.30 a.m. so we had to wait 15mins for a 'top up',no one was clearing tables, this happened on both mornings of our stay that said the dinner at night( appart from the mix up with the wine... white came after we ordered red) was delicious and served promptly.
We decided that having heard other guests complaining that we would say what we thought, nicely, on checkout, the receptionist was pleasant and efficient and asked if would mind speaking to the female duty manager. We agreed, and along came a gentelman, who listened and took notes so perhaps this little hickup will be sorted for your stay.
We still enjoyed the hotel, and made use of the ammenities it offered, the games room the gymnasium and the pool, and would still consider going back.
