Hertz car rental in Stratford

by londonlover

Hello,

I see on Hertz car rental's website that they have a pick-up office at 1 Abbey Road in Straford-on-Avon, but I can't find any evidence of that on Stratord's websites, including the official tourist site or the railway station's site, so I'm a little suspicious of Hertz's claim. :) Can anyone verify that there are Hertz cars typically available to hire near the rail station in Stratford?

Thanks,
Tara

There is no particular reason why tourist info sites would advertise or have links to local car hire firms, nor the railway station site (although I have found references to it), so I don't think you need to worry. If Hertz say they are there, then they are there.

You could always ring them on 01789 298837 ( or 01789 298827, as both numbers appear on websites suggesting a typo might be involved somewhere, perhaps) if you are still bothered.

Travel Tips for Stratford-upon-Avon

Shakespeare

by barryg23

Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon and spent the early and late parts of his life here. The Shakespeare Birthplace trust have restored his birthplace, and the homes of his mother, wife, and daughter and these are now all musuems open to the public. The birthpalce is probably the most interesting - primarily as it is adjacent to the excellent visitor centre.

Quaint cars and vehicles

by Jenniflower

We saw quite a few interesting things in Stratford-upon-Avon, this being one of those things!

There were quite a few biker guys and gals in their black leathers, sitting b the side of the river bank, with their huge motorbikes and Harley Davidson's parked to the side.

And then there was this.

Not quite sure what it is, nor what it used for, but it certainly is a talking point and has been beautifully put together. True craftmanship!

The New Inn..Clifford Chambers.

by lou31

This lovely pub is worth a visit. Clifford Chambers is one of those quaint villages about 2 miles out of town.
The Inn itself is 400 years old and was once a coaching inn.
They have nice well priced meals as well as accomodation. There is a carvery on certain nights and they have a specials board to choose from. Inside was nice and cosy and the people friendly.

The American Fountain

by Watsoncomper

This unique ornamental drinking fountain and clock tower stands in the market area on Rother Street and is a vocal point for the weekly markets which are held around it.

This ornate structure was commission by George W. Childs a newspaper editor from Philadelphia. Jethro Cossins designed it in 1887 as a tribute to Shakespeare. Above each of the clock faces is a fairy from Midsummer Nights dream but as the stature was unveiled during Queen Victoria’s jubilee statues of the English lion and the American Eagle share the facades.

The clock tower is known locally as The American fountain and it did originally have a fountain along side horse troughs which to-day are filled with flowers

Shakespeare's birthplace

by paradisedreamer

Step into the house where William Shakespeare was born in 1564 and re-enter the Tudor world.
The house has been newly refurbished and now you can get an insight into life as it was when Shakespeare was a child. There is a lovely garden and you can walk throught the house which has recreated with furniture, utensils, wall hangings and food of the period. You can read the signatures of famous visitors cut in the window panes.
