BAD BEDS BEYOND BELIEF
I usually spend a lot of time when I do a review of a hotel so that you, my fellow Traveller, get all the facts. This hotel, specifically its beds, is so bad that I will not be doing my normal thorough review. This hotel is the worst and should be shut down. This is in the centre of Birmingham. It is fantastically located. And that’s it. When I checked into my overly hot room, the windows were open and only one bed made. All 3 windows were open and I listed to the train announcements as they reverberated from the central train station opposite. I sat on the bed and it was so hard, it hurt. Off I went to reception to get a room change. Quieter room, same rock hard bed. I was trapped here with people I work with on a 2 day training course. None of us could sleep because the beds were so bad. The Comfort Inn has other hotels in the area that are quieter and have better beds.
DO NOT STAY HERE! YOU WILL NOT SLEEP.
Its a shame because you can take advantage of 2 loyalty programmes at the same time with Comfort Hotels: Choice Privileges – Swipe card that gives you money off at Argos Stores Favoured Guest Card – Stay 10 nights and get 1 night free Both of these cards are available at reception, just ask. They will not tell you about them and you can use them at the same time!
Unique Quality: Unique Qualities? Let me list them:
LOCATION: Fantastic and not badly priced BEDS: Too hard to sleep on DÉCOR: Dirty, old, worn out ELEVATOR: Small and stops in between floors often PARKING: NONE! Take your chances in a Car Park around the corner. May not be safe. BAR: Scary. Full of old men, smoke, and ruined carpets. Makes you feel unsafe. Called the Station Bar, their website says you can ‘relax’ here. I wouldn’t. SMOKING ROOMS: I think they all are and the hotel as well. Smells BREAKFAST: Average ROOMS: Drab BATHROOMS: Some very small and need a few lights
Other Services
• Interior Corridors! You know there is trouble when they have to list this as a feature! • Cable/Satellite TV • Free Newspaper (Mon-Fri) in the lobby • Copy Machine (pay) • Hair Dryer • Iron & Ironing Board • Meeting Room (I wouldn’t bother) • Telephone in the room • Coffee and trouser press in every room • Wake-Up Service
Opinion of Price: less expensive than average

Comfort Inn- City Centre Birmingham Photo: THE OUTSIDE IS NICE
by J_P_B about Birmingham City Council's Short Breaks website
Whilst not strictly accommodation in itself, this website has some fantastic deals for rooms in hotels in Birmingham - do have a look if you are coming here as you will pay an awful lot more if you go to the hotels direct and you know that the deals are genuine as it is the City Council that runs the site!
Formula 1, The French Chain Of World Wide Hotels
by Wangchuk
I found Formula 1, Hotels quit resonable. We got a room for 25 pounds. The room was bit small with bunk bed to accommodated 4 people (The price remains same). The room has a small color TV with cable connection. The hotel was very clean and they have separate toilet which was fully autometic. Once you are done the toilet cleans itself. All the entrece were electronic thus you dont get keys but code numbers. The breakfast was supurb. Formula 1, hotels are chain of French hotels world wide.

My favourite (and cheapest for city centre) is the Travel Inn, but going out of town along the Hagley Road, you pass numerous large and smaller (and cheaper) hotels. They predictably get cheaper the further away from town you get. £40.95 per room per night Right in the centre of the renovated canal district, with loads of pubs and restaurants on your doorstep. Nice view over the canal, if you're lucky, and ample free, safe parking outside in carpark.
The perfect place for a weekend of cuddles!!
by Deus_ultima about The Bear
This place is simply amazing! It was built as a coaching inn in the 13th century and a lot of politician, royalty and movie starts we're here!
It's another place owned by Macdonald hotels It's one of the oldest hotels in the UK and it's filled with history, Winston Churchill being born in this town! The atmosphere that comes out here is fantastic.. and the rooms are incredible!
Nickie and I got a beautifull room with a super bed, a cathedral roof and a nice lounging area. You can also get one with a fireplace!
The village is also beautifull.
Excellent Alternative to Expensive Heathrow Hotels
by Indyjack about Heathrow House Bed and Breakfast
The Heathrow House Bed and Breakfast is an excelent alternative to the expensive hotels that litter the airport.
My son stayed at the Heathrow House the night prior to an early morning flight, and the service was great. Owner Dean Harrison made himself available even though my son arrived very late (1:00 AM) from Rome.
The B&B is located in a quaint London neighborhood and offers a full English breakfast. It's definitely a recommend! see their website for details
Avoid Central London hotels - not worth it
by JosephHYLai about General Tip!
If you are planning to stay in London. Unless you are on a 5 star budget, I would suggest not to stay in a Central London (this includes the West End) Hotels. My experience with seeing hotels in the 3-star or below, Hotels is that they are over-priced and very poor value for money. A friend stayed near Bayswater in a £50 a night B&B Hotel... the room was so small that when the room door was opened it hit the bed. Another friend stayed at an upmarket hotel on the Strand, paying over £170 per night B&B. The room had a window that would fall down if opened, the wall had a huge hole in the plaster board and it smelt bad! My suggestion, is to find yourself a private B&B on the outskirts of London. I did that when I first came to London. I stayed in a B&B right next to Kew Gardens.. it was a lovely room decorated in Laura Ashley (well this was 15 years ago when this style was fashionable) and stayed with a friendly family. Ok, it takes a little more time to travel into Central London... but it was such a relief at the end of a hectic sightseeing day to come out to the peace and quiet of a suburban home.
Wonderfull lodging for a romantic getaway!
by Deus_ultima about Whately Hall
Part of Macdonald Hotels, this beautifull hotel located in Banbury is one of the nicest i've ever been to. It's very old and nicely decorated which gives more of a homey feel than most big hotels i've been to.
Also, theire is a lot of history and stories abnout this place (like the secret passage they found and the GHOST!) The whole place is lovely! Beautifull decorations reminding you of the history behind the place (built in 1632), a superb lounging area and very comfortable rooms!
We loved it.

Thank you for your replies,
After looking on the internet for ages I ended up finding a room at the Brittania hotel. It cost £45 (internet booking, otherwise £65) for a standard twin room, and as i was sharing with a mate it cost me only £22.50. The hotel was in the heart of the city on New Street which was ideal.
Thanks again,
x
