Directions for travel from Birmingham Int Airport to Derby

by jerry8888

I will be traveling from Birmington Airport to Derby. Ariving airport 9am on a Saturday. Any details regarding catching train to Derby are appreciated. Need directions from the airport to the train station where I can catch the train to Derby. Also, what is station name? Where is ticket purchased? What is approximate costs? Can ticket be purchased with credit card?

There is an electric light rail link (free) from the first floor of the airport to the train station. Not sure if you can get a train direct to Derby or if you'll have to catch a train you new street station in Birmingham and change there

You have to change at Birmigham New Street for the Derby train. Whole journey takes about 1hr 20 mins. Credit cards acceptable, don't know about price - probably £10-£12 single? Go to www.thetrainline.com for more.

University of Birmingham Sculpture Trail

by brummielaura

The University of Birmingham on the outskirts of the city centre, in Edgbaston, is a typical redbrick university with a beautiful leafy campus.

You can follow the university sculpture trail: There are sculptures scattered all across the campus.

The sculptures include:

Mermaid Fountain (William James Bloye) - in front of the Guild of Students building

Girl in a Hat (Bernard Sindall) - in front of the Aston Webb Building

Faraday (Sir Eduardo Paolozzi, 2000), on the way from the train station to the main campus

Great Western Arcade

by kayleigh06 about Great Western Arcade

Great Western Arcade offers a different type of shopping, with a different mix of retailers. Set in a Victorian architecture with shopes ranging from small boutiques to the usual high street shops. You will find something in the Great Western Arcade to suit you.

Bus services London <> Birmingham

by dark_willow

If you are traveling from London to Birmingham, the bus can be a better bet than the trains. There are two services from London city centre. The NXL Shuttle run by National Express runs 24/7 between the two, half hourly during the day. It costs around £20 but if you book in advance over the web you can get "Fun Fares" on certain departure times for £1, £5 or £10. It's cheaper the train and MUCH more reliable. Departs from Victoria Coach Station in London (right next to Victoria train stn) to Digbeth bus station in Birmingham, which is 5-10 min walk to the city centre.

Megabus.com offers a cheaper service, £3 each way! Very very cheap! It leaves from GreenLine bus station in London which is, again, next to Victoria train station. Buses are less comfy than the NXL shuttle but it's air conditioned, and has a toilet and is perfectly usable. However you HAVE to book online, you can't buy tickets at the station or on the bus. Also it is less frequent, running only a few times a day.

Both services are express, running direct non stop between the two cities.

Shimla Pinks

by CarolynShort about Shimla Pinks

Very large Indian Restaurant, capable of easily accommodating large parties. Modern decor and good service. We had a 'banquet' for about 25 of us - a mixture of loads of dishes, but I remember the starters were particularly good with mini samosa's, deep fried battered paneer, and kebabs.
