Be in Birmingham 2008 by Galahad
In the spring of 2003 Birmingham was attempting to become the European City of Culture in 2008. In the end Liverpool won the competition. As part of the bid it put on a series of concerts, in Symphony Hall, of Charles Ives symphonies accompanied by other US music. We went in March 2003 to one of these concerts. One of the accompanying pieces was a rarely performed Aaron Copland Organ Symphony and some other pieces were 19th century hymn and folk singing. The whole series was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.
