There are regular concerts by the CBSO (City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra). Sir Simon Rattle was their principal conductor before he went off to the Berlin Philharmonics, so this might give you an idea of their class!
Apart from the CBSO concerts, there are frequent concerts by national and international guests. For example, I've heard Bryn Terfel as well as a concert conducted by Sir Simon (as a guest star).
Symphony Hall was only opened in 1991 and is in the same building as the ICC, a convention centre.
Even if you don't go to hear a concert, you can still enter the building. Enter from Centenary Square and leave at Brindley Place at the other end.Smart
