Travel Tips for Birmingham

Don't forget the umbrella...

by TracyG

Anything you can carry really, no type of bag is going to be restrictive for you. Birmingham's climate is similar to elsewhere in the UK, so always bring something warm with you. Bring a smart set of clothes/shoes with you as there are some great places to go out, and a lot of them are pretty smart. You should have no problems in finding everything that you want here, there are shops at every other turn. Again, film, batteries etc. can be found everywhere, and it is all reasonably priced. Definately bring an umbrella, a lot of the sights will involve a walk outdoors to get to them, and it is no fun if it is pouring with rain, as it so often is...

The Centre of England.

by sourbugger

The village of Meriden lies a few miles to the south of Birmingham airport. It is traditionally seen as the 'Center of England'. (note the name of the village). The ancient village cross on the attractive village green states this. The ordanance survey now says that the site is actually in field about a dozen miles away - but this is much better !

The village also has a pond, some attractive half-timered houses and a first rate pub / brasseries called 'The bull head' that has served beer for several hundred years.

More unusually it is also the site for a national war memorial - to cyclists. Several thousand died in the first world war alone. I guess many of them would have been messengers between the front lines and the generals who were safely beyond the range of German guns.

An attractive spot to wander about, especially if you have time to kill before a flight.

Live Music

by J_P_B about The Academy

Cavernous venue for seeing live acts in Birmingham - seems like a lot of big name artists are playing here now, including Beck, The Gorillaz, Dido, Robert Plant, Primal Scream, Pap Roach and Groove Armada. No dress code.

by egyptianhunk

Visitors are able to track the route of aircraft from landing through to arrival on the stand and actually listen to Air Traffic Controllers. The aircraft progress can also be followed using an interactive model which will highlight the runway, taxiway and apron lighting. Cameras will provide live views of activity to screens in the Centre and areas of the apron previously unseen. The new Centre is now open ....
here u can find my exg/f's aunt looking at the flight.

Khanum

by kayleigh06 about Khanum

Khanum is another one of my favourite restaurants. This Indian restaurant is very small probably about 10 tables approximatley. Personally I think its good because the service is much better because there's less people there.

Theres obly one bad thing about this restaurant and it isn't even the restaurant it's the place its's situated, because its next to a university it's always rammed with students!

The food here is really really nice its worth the money you pay for it and its not an expensive place to eat! Chicken Vindaloo
