Travel Tips for Coventry

the original stripper

by unexplored

Lady Godiva is to Coventry what Robin Hood is to Nottingham, a character based in history whose story has been embellished through the ages. Lady Godiva rode naked through the streets to protest when her husband, the Earl of Mercia, imposed taxes on the town. The city residents remained indoors, except for Peeping Tom who was struck blind for his curiosity.
Every year a parade is held in early June to commemorate the original stripper.

Warwick Art's Centre

by Thistle-Rose

This is located on the edge of the city on the site of ' The University of Warwick' (Which is actually in Coventry!) It is a fantastic and exciting venue which attracts a very wide range of performer from the controversial Russell Brand to the cool blues sound of John Mayall to the exquisite performances of gosepl choirs and classical orchestras. There is sure to be something on that appeals to everyone and anyone out there! It really is worth checking out the website to see what is on whilst you are in town!

There are a number of halls on the same site, making it very unique - there is a concert hall, two theatres, a cinema - which often shows older films aswell as more recent ones, a gallery and conference room. There is also an outstanding restaurant, a bookshop, a gift shop and two bars. It is a very enjoyable night out if you find something that appeals to you!

Reached by car easily and also by bus form the city centre, information is all on the website for you...

Cheap and cheerful lunch

by Thistle-Rose about The terrace

The Terrace is situated inside West Orchards Shopping Centre in the heart of the Shopping Precinct. You will find it on the third floor up and it is a great variety of different foods on offer with lots of different food counters. There is a Macdonalds, a KFC, a Subway and then also some other greatalternatives to fast food such as Harpers - which serves traditional food, Cafe Napoli - which is italian and there is also a cafe if you just require a coffee and a cake. It's always very very busy, especially at weekends. I really enjoy having something traditional from Harpers. I usually go for the cottage pie with potatoe and veggies and lots of gravy. Sometimes i will grab a subway - it really depends on the purpose of you visit and whether you want a light lunch or something more substantial!

Coventry Cathedral

by Imbi

Coventry is known for its three cathedrals. During the World War II, on 14th November 1940, Coventry was bombarded badly by Nazis. During that raid the cathedral was completely destroyed and it was the only English cathedral to be destroyed. On May 25 1962 cathedral was reopened by Her Majesty the Queen.
