what's the weather like?

by epahpo

Going to be in the U.K. end of next week and wondering what kind of clothing I should pack. Is it very cold there right now? I'm thinking jeans and sweaters?

Re: what's the weather like?

by Tdiver

Depends where you come from, weather around 20c at most, can always be ready in case it rains.

I live near Coventry......yes, jeans and t-shirts and sweaters and a waterproof jacket; clothes you can layer, in other words (as always in the UK). High teens max for past few days (and only for a few hours in the afternoon). We're having some sunny hours at the moment, but the mornings and evenings are getting autumnal i.e. overcast/ bit chilly.

http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/today.asp?zipcode=coventry is very reliable; you get nice little graphics too. Next week actually looks rather nice, tho no higher than around 23 max; it may not even rain!

Thank you for the response! I'm going to have to figure out what those temps are in farenheit! I'm coming from California. Since we are going to be in several areas, I thought I'd ask about Conventry first. I am assuming from our business itinerary, we will be staying at a place called the Pytchley Hotel in West Haddon. Do you know anything about those accommodations?

Re: what's the weather like?

Well, think of high 60s max (just poss low 70s for a while), mid to low 50s at night. Remember breeze can be chilly, and damp chill feels colder than dry (tho, fingers crossed, forecast looks quite reasonable for when you're here).

West Haddon isn't in Cov though. It's halfway between Northampton and Rugby, not too far away (maybe 30/40 mins depending on traffic). Can't find out anything about the hotel except it's in the middle of W Haddon (which is large village, not town), 3 stars. bar, restaurant/wine bar type thing, 18 rooms. Will be fine, I'm sure. Weather will be more or less the same, or you could put Rugby into metcheck instead. Put W Haddon into www.multimap.com for map of where it is in relation to everywhere else.

You are totally awesome in your responses. Thank you. Hubby is teaching martial arts seminars in several areas, but I believe they are all within reasonable driving distance. I will look at a map just to get an idea where all destinations are in relationship to each other.

Re: what's the weather like?

No probs. If he's driving in the rush hours (7.30 to 8.30 ish, 4.30 to 6), tell him to allow extra time especially around school-dropping-of times (8 to 8.30 ish). The A5, M6 and roads into Cov etc can get very busy (that is, slow) in the morning/evening

And if you're bored, and it's the evening or weekend, and one of his venues is near me, he can drop you off and we can have a drink! Email me via VT if that appeals!

thank you for everything!

by epahpo

I'm looking at a flyer of my hubby's itinerary...looks like we're going to be in other surrounding areas. Thanks so much for all the info and I will indeed try to reach you should my own schedule allows me to escape! LOL! I will consider it an adventure! ~Liz

Travel Tips for Coventry

Crown court

by Imbi

Coventry crown court is located in Much Park Street. It is the place where all the criminal and other case proceeds. It is one of the city’s new buildings. It is obviously nothing really not important place but the building is centrally located and seems good so why not stroll down to have a look of it.

Hearsall Common - Enjoy the fun!!!

by Thistle-Rose

Hearsall Common is outside of the city centre and it is simply just a green area but is home to some enjoyable attractions at particular times throughout the year. It is always worth checking to see what is happening and you can find info on the website address below. I have very much enjoyed the Pat Collins funfair which usually comes during many of the school holidays throughout the year. I have also visited the circus which is based at Hearsall Common for a week or too during the year.

Clay pipes

by Pete.Gibson

Clay pipes, were once very common in Europe peaking between 1850-1920 , But after the great war ,cigarettes became cheaper and so took over,
but during Victorian times clay pipes were cheap and broke easily so many survive today but not to many with the stems still attached...styles changed considerably I have shown a couple of examples that Ive managed to dig up over the years

Bayley Lane

by Imbi

Bayley Lane is one of the oldest street in Coventry and its history goes back to Tudor’s period in Fourteenth century. In fifteenth century wall painting was found here of Tudors period. Bayley lane is next to St Mary’s. It once stood opposite the castle, now long gone and it was said to have been the bakery for the castle garrison

Holy Trinity

by Imbi

Holy Trinity is one of the largest medieval parish churches in England. It was formed in 1113 and it has Gothic styles. It was also suffered during the Second World War. Holy Trinity is ‘next door’ to Coventry Cathedral, adjacent to Priory Gardens, opposite the Alder’s department store in Broadgate, close to the statue of Lady Godiva and the famous Peeping Tom Clock.
